Russell T. Cobb

1925 - 2017

Russell Taylor Cobb, 91, of Suffield, CT, passed on February 27, 2017. He was the loving husband of Norma Nissen Cobb. Russell was born in Sharon, on September 23, 1925 son of the late Alfred and Virginia Cobb, and grew up in Fairfield, spending summers in Lakeville, CT. Upon graduation from Roger Ludlow High School in 1944 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. After basic training, he joined the 84th Infantry Division. He was a veteran of The Battle of the Bulge and the recipient of several medals but proudest of the Bronze Star. He was very proud to serve his country in WWII. He returned home in 1946 and entered UCONN at the Fort Trumbull branch in New London. In 1949, Russell and Norma married in Bridgeport, CT then he transferred to The University of Bridgeport. Graduating in 1951 with a degree in Business, and he went to work for General Electric in Bridgeport. Soon after, he transferred to Louisville, KY. The family remained there until 1955 when they returned to Connecticut. He lived in Stamford and Orange, before coming to Suffield in 1962 and lived there for the last 55 years. Russ was quite a handyman- building extra rooms and a fireplace in the Suffield home. He enjoyed playing golf (not too seriously) although he did make a hole in one in Louisville. He was a member of Post 52, D.A.V. in Enfield, the Veterans of The Battle of the Bulge; and served on the Economic Development Commission. Russ is survived by his beloved wife Norma of 67 years; a son David; sister Dorinda Pizone and her husband Joseph; nieces Dorinda, Ginny and her husband William and their children Matthew, Emily, and Andrea and her husband Michael. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Drusilla; and daughter ChrisAnne Lea. At Russell's request there will be no calling hours and the burial will be private. The Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11AM at First Church of Christ, 81 High Street, Suffield, CT 06078. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Music on High at First Church, OR Kent Memorial Library: for the purchase of Large Print Books.
