Ruth Eve Kor

KOR, Ruth Eve Ruth Eve Kor, 86, died on Wednesday (August 22, 2007). Ruth was born in Berlin, Germany, her parents Alice and James Hammer perished at the hands of the Nazis. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo Kor. She leaves behind her devoted son, Robert J. Kor and his wife, Emily J. Moskowitz and a loving granddaughter Stefanie Kor. In addition she is survived by her nieces Gabby Hammer and Monika Scala and her nephew Michael Hammer, their spouses and families. Ruth was a strong and loving woman who was devoted to her family and who lived a fulfilling life, despite being held captive in Nazi concentration camps in her early years. Ruth survived five years in Auschwitz, Tereisenstadt, Bergen-Belsen, the forests of Czechoslovakia and other horrors of the Holocaust. Ruth was forced into slave labor for both Bayer and Siemens companies. She survived the Holocaust as a nurse and was liberated in 1945. Ruth and Leo Kor married in Germany in 1948 and emigrated to the United States, where they lived in New York before settling in Connecticut. She and Leo lived in Connecticut until the mid 1970s when they moved to North Port, Florida where she resided until November of 2006, when she returned to Connecticut to live with her son and daughter-in-law during her illness. Ruth was active in the Jewish community both here and in Florida, where she served as president of Temple Beth El for several years. In Connecticut Ruth was involved at the Yeshiva of Hartford, the Beth David Synagogue in West Hartford, the Zionist Organization of America, the Mark Twain Masquers as well as other organizations. Ruth worked for General Development for over twenty years both in Connecticut and Florida. For the past thirty years, up until the time she became ill in November 2006, Ruth was actively working as a real estate agent, most recently with Coldwell Banker-Sunstar Realty. Ruth had an outgoing personality, a wonderful sense of humor and a keen mind. She was a kind and generous woman who was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She will be most especially missed by her son and his family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hebrew Home and Hospital as well as the VNA for their wonderful care of Ruth during her illness. They provided her with a loving and caring environment and a peaceful end. The funeral services will be held TODAY, Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, East Granby. The family will be sitting Shiva at home following the funeral.
