S. DeNoto Obituary



S. Thomas "Tom" DeNoto, 82, of Bristol, beloved husband of Joanne (Galgano) DeNoto, died very peacefully on Thursday (October 1, 2015) at home with his loving wife by his side. Tom was born in Bristol on November 11, 1932 to the late Salvatore and Susie (Onofrio) DeNoto. A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from Bristol schools and was a graduate of Arnold College, a division of the University of Bridgeport. He earned his Master's Degree from the University of Hartford. He enjoyed his career as Physical Education teacher and coach. He started his career at St. Anthony High School in 1955 teaching both physical education and science. He proudly left in 1956 to serve in the United States Army for two years, part of which included service in Korea. He returned to St. Anthony High School to resume teaching, coaching soccer, basketball, and baseball. He then joined the Bristol Public Schools teaching physical education at Stafford, Edgewood, and Sarah Reynolds Elementary Schools then on to Memorial Boulevard and Chippens Hill Middle Schools. He was a soccer official for the Central Connecticut Soccer Association for 21 years. Tom taught adult education and physical education for the Bristol Adult Education Program for several years. After retiring, he enjoyed teaching an exercise class at Komanetsky Estates. He was inducted into the Bristol Tramps for his work in the community promoting athletics and received the Bill Garrett Award. Tom was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church, Bristol. Religion being an important part of his life and honoring his faith, he became a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD. He enjoyed the Yankees, UCONN men's and women's basketball, and travelling, especially to Italy, Alaska, and the Grand Canyon. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Tom is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Thomas and Christine DeNoto of Bristol; two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Nathan White of Thomaston, and Cheryl and Christopher Eaton of Bristol; a brother: Frank DeNoto of Bristol; a sister, Laura DeNoto of Bristol; seven adored grandchildren: Nolan and Paul "PJ" Eaton, Alexandra, Devon, and Eric DeNoto, Jenna and Leah Francis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Diane and Bill Hare; brother-in-law: Michael Galgano and his companion, Jean Eckenrode; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (October 7, 2015) at 10 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave, Bristol, to St. Anthony Church, 111 School St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Entombment, with military honors, will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Tuesday between 6 and 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Anthony Church, 111 School St., Bristol, CT 06010, or to Bristol Hospital Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 977, Bristol, CT 06011-0977.
