Samuel Lavery Obituary

Samuel K. Lavery Jr. passed away peacefully, on July 26th, 2021 with his four daughters by his side. He was born on June 24th, 1931 to Samuel K. & Francis C. Lavery. Sam's 90th birthday was joyfully celebrated with family and friends at Brookdale Chatfield with a party and a Corvette parade. After serving in the Army, Sam raised his family in West Hartford, where his business, S. K. Lavery Appliance Co. was located and where he worked for over 60 years. Started by his father, the store has been a family legacy for 93 years, opening in 1928. Those who knew Sam associated him with his love of Corvettes. He could be seen driving around town pulling his Harley or boat behind his Vette. SKL had a passion for anything with a motor, the faster the better. He also took great joy in building homes and developing property. As one of the founding families of Quonochontaug East Beach Association (QEBA), Sam spent his summers as a boy in and on the water. Sam passed on his love of this area, where for five generations his family continues to enjoy Quonnie. Family man. Gearhead. Businessman. Sam was pre-deceased by the mother of his children, Joan Kiley Lavery; his sisters, Geraldine Steinetz and June O'Connor. He leaves his loving daughters, Jennifer Grant (Steve), Lynn Davies (Dwight), Samantha Greeno (Jeff), and Elizabeth Schwab (Ed). Papa was adored by his seven granddaughters, Jessica Grant Hammer (Matt), Alison Grant Kennavane (Patrick), Kiley Grant, Leigh Davies Andrews (Eric), Kelsey Davies Shepard (Derek), Dana Schwab Boland (Tim), Eleanor Schwab, and his four great grandchildren, John and Julia Hammer, Cash Andrews, and Charles Kennavane. Additionally, he leaves his brother and business partner, Robert J. Lavery (Pam). Services will be held at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT, on Sunday, August 1st, where friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com

To the Lavery Family,
I remember visiting you at your home and your father was very kind and had a great sense of humor. He was always very welcoming to us as teenagers. He was a very remarkable person.

I am sorry for your loss.

What a great man! Was a second father to me on Braeburn Rd. He employed me at the store & had me stain the building facade one summer. A great, warm person! He will be missed.
