Scott Blackburn Obituary

Scott E. Blackburn Sr. 60, passed away on Wednesday, October 2nd at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT after a three year battle with congestive heart failure and other resulting illnesses. He leaves behind his son, Scott E. Blackburn Jr., his mother, Katherine Janssen, his former spouse, Michelle Blackburn, his sister, Debra Wucik and his brother, Paul Blackburn and many nieces, nephews, members of extended family and countless close friends. Born and raised in Suffield, CT the son of William Blackburn Jr. and Katherine Blackburn, he was a lifelong resident of Granby, CT and East Hartland, CT. As his father before him, Scott was gifted with a beautiful, talented mind for mathematics and engineering and after graduating from Granby Memorial High School in the class of 1977, he attended the University of Connecticut and Western New England graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. He met his now former spouse, Michelle Blackburn in 1989, was married in 1991 and gave birth to his son, who also bears his name, Scott Blackburn Jr. in 1993. After graduating from UConn, Scott had the opportunity to begin work at Kaman Aerospace Corporation, where he worked for over 37 years in multiple roles as a civil engineer and environmental remediation specialist. As many can attest, Scott had a brilliant mind and truly loved his work. He brought a sense of confidence and commitment to his career, and had a cheerful, accepting disposition that anyone in his presence could appreciate. His dedication to excellence, attention to details, sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to all made him so well loved among those he worked with for so long. Scott was an avid golfer, a lifetime Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan and found no greater joy in life than going on family trips to Cape Cod. Scott spent his days coaching his son's baseball and basketball teams, enjoying the company of family and dedicating his time to being the best father, brother and son that he could be. Those who knew Scott remember his contagious laugh, passion for animals and ability to impact and make those around him comfortable and composed within the limited but beautiful adventure that is the life we know. He once promised before he left us that we will see him again someday on a golf course in Heaven, 8 o'clock tee time, no breakfast balls. Scott will be greatly missed. He was, is and will forever be here with us. A period of visitation will be held for Scott on Sunday October 13th, from 3-6pm at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St. Granby. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence on the following day, Monday, October 14th at 9:30am at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow St. Simsbury. Burial will be private. I just learned of Scott's passing.
We worked together at Kaman from 1987-1994.
Scott was a great engineering guy to go to for process issues. Always friendly and a pleasure to work with.

He asked me one day, "what is your favorite day of the week"? I said Sunday. He said, "Saturday, because there is one more day back to work." A man who enjoyed time.
So sorry for Scott's passing, was thinking of him just this week..

We worked together at Kaman Aerospace for many years in Facilities and Maintenance. Played golf together for many years after that with, "Jim Casey's Sunday Morning Boys" Another Kaman alumnie, sorely missed...
We shared lots of laughs trying to "keep our card" at St. Ann's CC with that group of golf funatics!
Tough crowd but, always a good time!
Scotty went on to win the Presidents Club Championship in 2006, after dashing my effort... LOL!
Give our Best to Jimmy, Scott.
We will remember you both on the 18th tee, every Sunday Morning.
Our Sincere condolences to Scott's family,
Dave Boone & the Sunday Morning Boys

We are in shock. I grew up next door to Scott and his wonderful family. Scott taught me how to ride a go-cart, tried SO hard to get me to be good at basketball at the hoop in my driveway, and is responsible for my lifelong love of the music of the Beach Boys....to Katie, Paul and Debby and your family...there are no words to express our heartbreak for you.
With love, Maggi & Margaret

We were so sorry to hear this news. Scott was a great man we were privileged to know and coach with over the years. He was a quiet leader with a quick wit and an easy smile. A good example for us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jim and Carol Kidd
