Stanley Chlodnicki Obituary

Stanley Chlodnicki 77, of Newington, CT and Starksboro, VT, passed away on May 10, 2021. Stanley was born during World War II in the City of Warsaw. He grew up playing in the ruins of that once great city. One of the anecdotes that he loved to recall was that as a boy of 5 he sold snacks and drinks to builders. He met his future wife Elizabeth through friends and by offering her a ride on his motorcycle. He would eventually sell that bike and used to proceeds to purchase an engagement ring. They were married on October 15th 1967. Stanley was a devout Catholic, prayer was an important part of his life. Stanley pursued a career as an electrician and eventually earned the title of State Electrical Inspector for the City of Warsaw. He often took his family on trips throughout the Eastern Europe, part of which was intended on tourism but also exploring the culture and getting to know the people who lived there. This was a part of his gregarious nature. Stanley was a fierce opponent of communism, which had been a source of oppression for his country. As such, he gathered his family and escaped. His family was resettled in Austria first in the refugee camp in Traiskirchen, then in the idyllic countryside of central Austria in the small village of Stadl an der Mur. He often recalled that his time in this village was the best vacation he ever enjoyed. He spent the next two months splitting wood for the local village church and enjoying life in the pastoral surroundings. Our family will forever be grateful for the generosity of the people of Austria for their hospitality. In September 1981 our family emigrated to The United States and started a new life in Hartford. Stanley worked in Hartford Hospital as a biomedical engineer for 27 years. Having a second home in Vermont he spent many retirement years there. Stanley is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Chlodnicki; his son Cas Chlodnicki and his wife Katarzyna of Cornwall Vermont and Warsaw Poland, and their children Adam of Rotterdam the Netherlands and Sarah of Warsaw Poland; his son Greg Chlodnicki and his wife Debra of Higganum, and their children, Kaylee and Derek. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday May 15th at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church in Middletown. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery on 305 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, please leave a donation to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., PO Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492. I am going to miss Stanley, he was a good friend and coworker for many years. He loves his wife Elizabeth and was always proud of his sons. Stanley told fascinating stories of his adventures and journeys through Europe and his eventual immigration to America. Now Stanley is embarking on his greatest journey, Godspeed Stanley.

Cas, Greg, Ms. Chlodnicki and family - I am so sorry for your loss and will be thinking about you in the days ahead. I have a number of great memories of Stanley - ranging from high school soccer - to trips to VT. The common thread in all of them is that Stanley was a great and gregarious person who could both make you laugh and put you at ease at the same time. Even thinking of him now makes me smile.
