Stephen ST. JOHN Obituary

ST. JOHN, Stephen Stephen St. John, 63, of Hebron, passed away on Friday (June 4, 2010) due to injuries from an automobile accident. Born in Hartford on March 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Chesley and Elizabeth (Mitchell) St. John. Stephen grew up in East Hartford, where he attended school. He went on to earn a degree in Psychology from Central Conn. State University. Stephen was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served during the Vietnam War. On March 1, 1986, he wed Donna Jean Henderson in West Hartford. Soon after, the couple moved to Columbia, where they lived for 17 years before moving to Hebron, where they made their home and raised their family. Stephen retired in July of 2009 as IT Director of Systems for CIGNA, having served for over 27 years. Prior to that, he also worked for both the Hartford and Travelers Insurance Companies. He was a member of the Blackledge Menâ ™s Golf Club, of which he was an avid and enthusiastic golfer. He also enjoyed fishing, skiing, reading and Red Sox games. His recent labor of love was in making his retirement home in Bradenton, Florida ready for residing in. He will be remembered by those who knew him best for his fun loving nature, vibrant personality and love of laughter. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his wife and children. In addition to his wife of 24 years, he leaves two children, Jenna Elizabeth St. John and Brett Alexander St. John, both of Hebron; a sister, Nancy Jean St. John of Tolland; his favorite godmother, Annarita Williamson of East Hartford; nieces and nephews, Scott, Christopher and Melissa St. John and their spouses and numerous extended family members and friends. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. The funeral will be held on Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Hebron, 1 Main St., Hebron at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown with full military honors. The news of Steve's passing saddens me a great deal. During my years at Blackledge CC and now at Topstone GC, Steve was always a joy to work with. He always had a smile on his face, loved the game of golf, and showed his enthusiasm through his love for laughter. My thoughts and prayers go out to the St. John family.

To the St. John family, Steve worked for me at CIGNA and we also worked together. I have played golf with him, and he told wonderful stories of his family and golden retrievers. Steve will be missed. My heartfelt sorrow and sympathy is extended to you in this sad time.

Dearest Donna, Jenna, and Brett,

Susan called me just last night, just having heard the news herself. I'm so sorry we couldn't make it in time.
But Susan and I agreed that we would both come visit you in CT as soon as we can. I spoke at length today with Sandy and Albert, who are also sorry they could not be there.

I hope you know how devastated we all are for you. I didn't know Steve nearly as well as I would have liked, but I will always remember his warmth and sly sense of humor.

I hope the many happy memories you all share will one day bring you smiles. But I know that will be a long time coming. All you can do is remember is how much he loved you, and that he knew you loved him.

Love to you all, and to Stephen and Gerry, too. I promise we'll see you all soon.

With all my heart, Elaine (and Susan and Wendy, too...we haven't spoken with Keith, but I know he'll feel the same).

Donna and Family,

My heart goes out to you. Steve and I worked together for many years at CIGNA and I was so sad and heartbroken when I heard the awful news. Please know that Steve touched so many here at CIGNA and his contributions continue to be appreciated. He was a joy to work with, his excellent skills and sense of humor helped us through some very rough projects, and he was always there willing to help anyone in need. More importantly, I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers and I'm sure you know that Steve will be watching over you all. I'm so sorry!
