Steven Meo Obituary

MEO, Steven F., Attorney Steven F. Meo, Attorney, loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully entered eternal life on Tuesday (25 April 2006). He had been courageously undergoing treatment at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys Hospital, in Rochester, MN. With his extending smile and his exuberance for life, Steve was a well known courthouse figure in the Hartford area. "Steve was an accomplished and highly respected civil and criminal trail lawyer whose pro bono work and devotion to his clients were truly remarkable", said attorneys Jainchill, Laudati, and Namnoum. "His courage, faith and determination were beyond compare", added attorney Gerace. Attorney Meo was a delegate to the America Trial Lawyers Assoc., and an active member of the CT Bar Assoc., Hartford County Bar Assoc., the CT Trial Lawyers Assoc., and the CT Criminal Defense Lawyers Assoc. A graduate of Wilby H.S. in Waterbury, he received a B.S. from the University of Connecticut, and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England School of Law. Steve spent his law school days working as a clerk at the Superior Court in Hartford; after being admitted to the bar in 1983, he practiced with the law firm of Slitt & Gerace, then in 1990 established his own private practice, The Law Firm of Steven F. Meo, currently at Capitol Place, 21 Oak Street, Hartford. Steve frequently traveled and journeyed throughout the world with his loving wife, Eloise, embracing ideas, music, spirituality, and the cultures of many diverse peoples. He was an avid fitness and health enthusiast, enjoying hiking, canoeing and camping in the Adirondacks, skiing, bicycling, running, swimming, baseball (Red Sox fan), basketball (UCONN fan), and ballroom dancing; he maintained a cherished and highly utilized lifelong membership in the YMCA. Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Eloise Marinos, betrothed 27 October 1990 in Bloomsburg, PA. Born 15 July 1955, son to Yvette (Thouvenel) and the late Francis B. Meo of Waterbury. He is also survived by sisters, Roseline Gilland, Danielle Grilley, Paulette Lambert, and Francine Richardson; niece and goddaughter, Michelle O'Malley; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout New England, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Consistent with Steve's desire to have others learn and benefit from his medical history as a child hodgkins lymphoma survivor and subsequent open heart surgeries to combat the resultant radiation damage, his body was donated for medical research purposes, with cremation following. Family and friends extend heartfelt thanks to the many physicians, nurses and staff at The Mayo Clinic, Hartford Hospital, and those in private eastern Traditional Chinese Medicine and the healing arts who shared in Steve's journey. A Memorial Remembrance and Mass will be held Tuesday, 9 May at 5 p.m. at Saint Peter Church, 160 Main Street, Hartford, Rev. Michael S. Galasso. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute donations may do so to honor and continue Steve's outreach through THE STEVEN F. MEO CHARITABLE FOUNDATION, INC., c/o Farmington Savings Bank, 32 Main Street, Farmington, CT 06032.

Steve Meo was one of the finest people we have ever been privileged to consider our friend. He was a wonderful person and his passing will leave a great void for many of us. He always had a kind word, a gentle and reassuring way about him and a warm a gracious smile. He cared deeply about his friends, family and his clients. His enthusiasm for life was boundless. His devotion to UCONN basketball was beyond compare and many of us will never attend another game without thinking of Steve. We will miss him greatly. God Bless you Steve. We love you.

I'm so saddened to hear about the loss of Attorney Meo. What a coincidence, I was just telling a couple of co-workers how wonderful of an Attorney Steven Meo was. I will always remember in my heart that whenever I needed Steven assistance, without hesitation, Steven was always there to represent me. We had a little joke amongs us. Every 2 years, I will always get into a car accident and Steven will always joke with me and say "see you in 2 years". Good bye my friend, you will always be missed. I hope I can find an Attorney as good as you. Rest in Peace. Your job is done on earth, now go give some excellent advice in Heaven.

I will never forget you.

Fondly,

Karen

I have worked for Ken Namnoum, Jr. for many years and got to know Steve through Ken. Steve was one of few attorneys who always had time to chat with the girls in the office. He and I discussed the Red Sox and UConn Women's basketball whenever he called. When he came by the office, he always stopped to say hello. His smile filled a room. He will be missed.

Atty. Meo will always be remembered. He was smart, honest, and fair, had a great personality and is the best "BOSS" I’ve had the opportunity to work for. Eloise my thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
