Susan LaChance Obituary

Susan (Knott) LaChance, of Portland, passed away on Saturday afternoon, (January 4, 2003) at home in Portland, after a valiant fight against cancer. Susan was raised in East Hartford and later lived in Granby and Marlborough before settling in Portland in 1972. She leaves behind her devoted husband, J. Bruce LaChance; her sister, Roberta Thistle and brother-in-law, Edward Thistle of Waterford, and her sister, Nancy Morris and brother-in-law, Will Morris of Jupiter, FL. She is survived by six children; two stepchildren; and 11 grandchildren, Robin Smith and children, Jessica and Zachary of Portland, Robert Light and his wife, Samantha and children, Raegan and Christopher of Cobalt, Randall Light and his wife, Marcy and children, David and Daniel of Cheshire, Reynold Light and children, Ben and Max of New Haven, Sara Wilson and her husband, Ed and children, Casey and Jared of Arlington, VA, Joseph LaChance and his wife, Misha and daughter, Rosemarie of Middletown, Jason LaChance of Deltona, FL, and Danielle Brannon and her husband, Greg of Debary, FL. Also left behind are too many dear friends, nieces, nephews, and in-laws to list by name. A woman whose devotion to her family was unsurpassed, Susan was also a successful entrepreneur who created Glass Products and Tech One Inc. in Colchester, with her husband, Bruce. Her love, intelligence, and strength made her a unique woman, whose endless circle of family and friends will forever mourn her passing. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. The family has requested no flowers. Funeral services for family and close friends will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., with the Rev. Susan Rack officiating. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
