Theresa Fields Obituary

Theresa M. Fields of West Main Street, Chester, passed away at her home Sunday morning (September 28, 2003). She was born in Fitchville, CT, October 22, 1916, the daughter of John F. and Julia (McManus) Fields. Miss Fields was a graduate of John Fields Memorial School in Bozrah which was named after her father, a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and the William W. Backus Hospital School of Nursing. After completing a post-graduate course in pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, she returned to W.W. Backus Hospital as Head Nurse in Pediatrics. In 1950, Miss Fields moved to Stamford and attended New York University, receiving her B.S. in Nursing. She joined the staff at Stamford Hospital and remained there for 31 years. After retirement Miss Fields became a volunteer at the Pediatric Clinic at Stamford Hospital and with the American Red Cross Blood Services Program. After leaving Stamford she had resided in Chester for the past seven years. While a resident of Stamford, Miss Fields was a communicant of St. Bridget of Ireland Church until joining Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex seven years ago. She was a member of the American Nurses Assn., the CT Nurses Assn., the Catholic Nurses Organization, NYU Alumni and W.W. Backus Hospital Alumni, as well as AARP. Miss Fields is survived by close family members, Mary Fields, Arlene Sullivan, John and Ann McManus, Ray and Claire McManus, Jack and Kathy Fields, Elizabeth Stimpson, Charles Whittey, Ken and Ann Krech, and Timothy Sullivan. She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Fields and Catherine Fields. Funeral to assemble at Godere Funeral Home, 21 North 2nd Ave., Taftville, Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John's Church, Fitchville at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Norwich. Visitation is Saturday, 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral.
