Thomas J. Bascetta Sr.

Thomas J. Bascetta, Sr., 81, of Newington, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Catherine A. "Kay" (Cirullo) Bascetta. Born in Winsted, Mr. Bascetta moved to Hartford and enlisted with the U.S. Army, 169th, 43rd Infantry Division, serving in the Pacific Theatre for five years and was discharged in 1946. He was a Newington resident for the past 45 years and was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington. Mr. Bascetta was formerly employed by the Town of West Hartford as a building inspector, and was a charter member of the CT Plumbing and Heating Inspectors Assoc. He was supernumerary in the Newington Police Dept., and a member of the CT Police Assoc. Mr. Bascetta was nominated to the Town Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Building Code Appeal Board, and was a member of the Newington Police Alumni Assoc. A loving and devoted father, he leaves his two sons, Thomas J. Bascetta, Jr. and his wife Jayne of Newington, William S. Bascetta of Chicago, IL; his granddaughter, Brittany L. Bascetta of Newington; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank and Claire Cirullo of Rocky Hill, Mary Ann Cirullo of Farmington; many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Josephine Bascetta Latina; his father, Carmen Bascetta; his step-father, Thomas Latina; and his brother, Anthony Bascetta. His funeral services will be held Friday, 9:15 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call TODAY from 5-8 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
