Toby Bannister Obituary

Toby E. (Garber) Bannister, 68, of West Hartford died peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2013. She was born on July 3, 1945 in Boston, MA to Morris and Ann (Torf) Garber and spent her life as a resident of West Hartford. Toby was a graduate of Hall High School, Hartford College for Woman and Boston University and until her retirement made a career as an underwriter in the insurance industry for over 30 years. She was a fan of Foxwood's slot machines, UConn Basketball, Yankees Baseball, and rock-n-roll oldies naming her beloved cats, all of whom have passed away, Santana, Pearl Jam, and Elvis. She is survived by her daughter Jamie Bannister of Chicago, her daughter-in-law Jamielyn Siergiej Bannister, her first and only grandchild Michael Jayce Bannister who will turn one year old in February, her sister, Lisa Garber of New York, her brother Peter Garber of Vero Beach, FL, his wife Debbie and their children Pamela, Emily, and Jeffrey, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from the greater Boston area, her former husband and friend, Brian Bannister of West Hartford, and her loyal friends Liz Mead and Elaine Stevens. She is predeceased by her son Michael Justin Bannister who died of cancer at 26 years of age, a tragic blow to all who knew and loved him. Her grandson is named Michael in his memory. Toby's ashes will scattered so she may once again be with her son. A luncheon in celebration of Toby's life will be conducted at a date to be determined. Dear Jamie, I am so sorry to learn of your mom's passing. Although we had not spoken in a while, she was thought of often. I mentioned to Bob the othe day that I needed to call her and set up another one of our trips to Foxwoods. She was a wonderful, dear friend who will be sorely missed. I have fond memories of her in Florida when she took such great care of my sister-in-law Doreen. A true friend.
