Sister Veronica Marie Harkins S.N.D.

Sister Veronica Marie Harkins, S.N.D., 86, with the Conn. Province of the Sisters of Notre Dame, died Friday, (May 16, 2003) in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, MA. Born in Boston, MA daughter of Michael J. and Veronica M. (Carey) Harkins. She graduated in 1957 from Emmanuel College, Boston, majoring in English and History. In 1967, she received a degree in Library Science from St. John's University. She also studied at Fairfield University. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1941. She was a secretary for 17 years in the chancery offices of the Diocese of Bridgeport, retiring in 1991. In retirement, she lived several years at St. Christopher Convent in East Hartford. Previously, she was a teacher and a librarian for 30 years in Notre Dame schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut. She leaves three brothers, William Harkins of Los Angeles, CA, Robert Harkins of Norwood, MA., and Richard Harkins of South Weymouth, MA.; three sisters, Rose Harkins of Roslindale, MA., Veronica Harkins of East Braintree, MA. and Ann Garrity of Norwood, MA.; nephews, nieces and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The Funeral Mass will be Wed., May 21, at 6 p.m. in Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA. Calling hours at the chapel are Wed. from 3:30-6 p.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
