Veronica Prokop Obituary

Veronica "Vera" (Archacki) Prokop, 93, of Ellington passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018, from the Lymphoma cancer that she valiantly fought for over 20 years. Vera was born in Rockville, CT in 1924 to William and Freda Archacki. She graduated from Rockville High School in 1942 and worked as a stenographer at Connecticut General Insurance, in the National Card Shop office, and as a nurse's aide in Hartford Hospital during WWII. She married Paul H. Prokop in 1946 after he left the Navy, and they were married for 59 years until his death in 2005. The Prokop's lived in Ellington in a home they built, and then at Autumn Chase. Vera was a lifelong parishioner (Baptism, Communion, Confirmation, Marriage) of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Rockville, and practiced her faith deeply till the end. Vera had many friends throughout her life. She loved everyone and always looked for the best in people, circumstances, and life in general. Her passion was hosting people, and serving tea and dessert, and continued to do so even though her illness was taking its toll. Vera was a very strong individual, and lived and died on her terms. She gives thanks to all who made her life so wonderful. A special thanks to Father Bill and the other priests of St. Bernard Church, Eve Magoon, Vera's neighbors Peggy and Jim O'Neill, the Vernon Visiting Nurses/Hospice, and all who helped her get through her last days, especially Christina Halm who was with Vera 24/7 till the end. Vera leaves her daughter Kim Foscolos and her husband John Foscolos of Broad Brook, grandsons Steven Prokop and his partner Dean Lillibridge, who was much like a grandson to her, Terry Prokop and his wife Teena, great-grandchildren "TJ", Carly, and Zane Prokop, and great-great grandchildren Kaelyn and Penelope, all of Vernon, Manchester, and Enfield. Vera also leaves her nieces and nephews Lee Ann Berberick, Alan Pira (godson), Beverly Mockus, Marilyn Preuss, Dorothy Millick, Ellery Kington, David Gillich, and their spouses and children, and another godson Stanley Mockus. Vera was predeceased by her son Michael in 2004, her sister Helen Pira and brother Leon Archacki, niece Shirley Blinn and nephew Gary Pira, among others. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, July 5, from 4-7 pm at Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm Street, Rockville, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, July 6, at 10 am at St. Bernard Church in Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville, CT 06066 or Vernon Visiting Nurses/Hospice, 7 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066. Kim and family,

Your mother was a very special lady whom I was honored to call my friend. I will miss my weekly visits and her very British Teas!

I know that Vera is extremely happy to be back with your father. I am sure they are having a wonderful time up in heaven.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
