Vincenzo Bongiovanni Obituary

BONGIOVANNI, Vincenzo Vincenzo Bongiovanni, 74, of Hartford, loving husband for 47 years of Lucia (Gurciullo) Bongiovanni, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday (September 4, 2008), at St. Francis Hospital. He was born April 20, 1934 in Sortino, province of Siracusa, Sicily and was the son of the late Vincenzo and Giuseppina (Vinci) Bongiovanni. He served in the Italian Army. Vincenzo was employed by Action Packaging Company for many years, retiring in 2004. He was a long-time member of the Italian-American Stars. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Carmelo and his wife Santina, Giuseppe and his wife Eva and Antonio and his fiancée Lucy Melendez; two daughters, Pina Gulino and her husband Paul and Marisa Paruta and her husband Marco, all of Wethersfield; 11 grandchildren, Luciana, Vincenzo and Ariana Bongiovanni, Monica and Max Bongiovanni, Seby, Alex and Gabriella Gulino, and Piero, Vincenzo and Isabella Paruta; three sisters, Nunzia Ferranti and her husband Nuzzo of Sicily, Enza Tabacco and her husband Nuzzo of Australia and Nella Accardi of Enfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sebastiano Gurciullo of Holland, Nino Gurciullo and his wife Tina of Sicily, Giuseppe Marino of Sicily and Lina Bongiovanni of Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews in the USA, Italy and Australia. He was predeceased by two brothers, Giuseppe and Mario Bongiovanni and a sister-in-law, Sebastiana Marino. A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center and Floor 8-1 for the love, care and compassion shown to Vincenzo and his family. Funeral Service will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. For on-line expressions of sympathy please visit www.desopo.com.
