Walter Korona Obituary

KORONA, Walter J. Walter J. Korona, 82, of the Hazardville section of Enfield, beloved husband of 57 years Gertrude (Maskowski) Korona, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, (November 6, 2007) at Evergreen Healthcare. Born Dec. 16, 1924, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary Gonsior Korona. Walter was a lifetime resident of the community. He was employed by the former Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co., the State of CT, Dept. of Transportation with the fire and rescue dept. at Bradley Field and later as a special deputy sheriff with the Judicial Dept. of State of CT before retiring several years ago. Walter was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and member of the John Maciolek Post #154 American Legion. He was a lifetime communicant of St. Adalbert Church. Walter served the Town of Enfield as a member of the Enfield Planning & Zoning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals for many years. He was a devoted member of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee. Walter was a person willing to help his friends and neighbors whenever he could. He was an avid RED SOX fan. Besides his loving wife Gert, Walter is survived by a brother, Frank Korona of Enfield; a sister Helen Corbo of Suffield; and several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by a son, Bruce J. Korona, a brother Joseph Korona and three sisters Sophie Strycharz Julia Sobinski and Josephine Korona. Family and friends will gather Saturday, by 9 a.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road for a funeral procession to St. Adalbert Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Adlabert's Cemetery with military provided by the John Maciolek Post #154 A.L. Walter's family will receive relatives and friends at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, Friday 3-7 p.m. Memorial donations in Walter's memory may be made to Home & Community Health Services Hospice Program, P.O. Box 1199, Enfield, CT 06083-1199 or to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield, CT 06082. Walter's family wishes to thank the staff at Evergreen Healthcare and Home & Community Hospice Program for their caring of Walter during his illness.
