Walton Schlechtweg Obituary

Walton B. Schlechtweg, 93, of Middletown, beloved husband of Sherrie L. (Mays) Schlechtweg, died peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Walton was born on August 10, 1930, in Stamford, Connecticut, son of the late Dr. K. Otto and Ruth D. (Hussey) Schlechtweg. He grew up in New Canaan and was a graduate of New Canaan Highschool - Class of 1949.

Walton joined the Connecticut Air National Guard in 1950 and served during the Korean conflict. He went back to school in 1959, while working full time with the guard, and earned a degree in Business Administration from Hillyer College.

He retired from the Connecticut Air National Guard, 103rd Combat Support Squadron at Bradley Field, as a Chief Master Sergeant after 37 years of service. Walton then joined the CT Governor's Footguard and would later take a position at the Connecticut State House as a supervisor in the Billing Room, where he worked for over 20 years as a sessional employee. Walton was a 50 plus year member of the Fayette Masonic Lodge # 69 and was a past Master.

He loved computers and had a passion for camping and traveling all over the United States.

Walton was a kind, caring, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He will be dearly missed.

Along with his wife of over 30 years, Sherrie, he leaves his children, Bryan Schlechtweg and his wife Denise of Stafford, Pamela Schlechtweg of Ellington, Susan Todoroff of Norton, OH, Myrton Schlechtweg and his partner Lori Miller of Phoenixville, PA; his grandchildren Jeffrey Schlechtweg and wife Bonnie, Andrew Schlechtweg and wife Melissa, Maxwell Todoroff and wife Laura, Jessica Novo and husband Aitor, Alexa Todoroff, John Schlechtweg, and Katy Edmonds and husband Caleb; great grandchildren Maverick, Ander, and Brooks; and his sister-in-law, Lynda Coffey of St. Stevens, NB. He also leaves his wife's children, Rick Csuhta and wife Debra, Connie Luther, husband Dan, and children Danny, Ryan and Amanda, Jim Csuhta, wife Mary, and children Corey and Sherrie, Mary Karas, husband Don, and children Samantha and Ali, Patricia Csuhta, Anita Gennaro, husband Tony, and children Michael, Addyson and Anthony with whom he had a special bond. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Snow, and his wives Patricia A (Middlebrooks) Schlechtweg, and Mary E. (Coffey) Schlechtweg.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 5-7 PM, at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (rte. 83), Vernon; followed by a Masonic Service and Military Honors to begin at 7PM.

Burial at Ellington Center Cemetery will be private at the request of his family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Middletown, CT and for online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneral.com
