To Weldon L. Harris

Mr. Weldon Harris provided my first wonderful introduction to musical theater with his memorable roll as Ben Franklin in SWHS's '1776' and as Nicely Nicely (I think that was the character's name) in 'Guys and Dolls' As a little boy, I was COMPLETELY captivated by his energy and talent. I feel incredibly sad to learn that he passed. I'm consoling myself certain that he made countless lives better. Keeping him and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

To all who have sent their blessings to my family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Seeing so many people from my father's past, people from SWHS and Morehouse college reaching out and remembering his legacy only makes his memory that much stronger. He is a man, a son, a husband, and most certainly, a father that will be truly loved and missed.

I just heard about Weldon's passing, and I am so sorry. I have some very fond memories of Weldon. He was a warm and funny guy, with such an awesome talent. I had to smile in reading Richard's tribute to Weldon. My earliest high school memories are of Weldon, John and Richard and the VW beetle. Our rides to Greater Hartford Youth Chorale on Monday nights, were filled with fun, laughter, and of coure, singing. I know Weldon is in heaven with John, singing "Freddie's Walkin." I will keep you and Weldon in my prayers. He will surely be missed. God Bless!

My two best high school tenor singing buddies, John Argenta and Weldon Harris are now "rock'in the boat" in heaven. I imagine their cruising around in Weldon's old VW Beetle.
It is amazing that imprint on your life from creating music with others. I have clear visions of singing but mostly laughing with these two friends as if I were 18 years old again. As I watch my own high school children sharing music with their friends, I think back on many fun times with Weldon and the gang. I share these memories now with my music students and tell them that this is the class they will remember years from now.
I can only be sad for a few moments before a smile takes over as I reflect on the times and escapades shared with Weldon. I hope you too can be comforted by the joy he brought to earth.

I remember, as a child, going to the SWHS musical programs and Weldon's flawless singing voice. My sister even had an album that the choirs had made, and I remember listening to it over and over and over again, beacause I couldn't get enough of Weldon's solo performance in a song about Peace, Love and the world being a better place. It had such a major effect on me!
Donna, my old friend, I extend my sympathies to you and your family.

Lillie and family - my heart goes out to all of you, it is so out of order to suffer the death of our children When we were all so young working in the OR, we worried about childkood ills, now as we age the scean can change quickly. Keep your faith, and know God is with you.

Today I heard Weldon called so many names-Son, Father, Brother, Uncle, Lamar, "Fuzzy". To me, as a SWHS friend who loved him [and always will-until we meet again] he was my Friend and one of the Best Huggers-ever. He has left a whisper on my heart.....

I will always treasure the time I spent with Lamar at Morehouse and the bond created as members of the Morehouse College Glee Club. Lamar's lust for life was contagious. He loved to laugh and loved making sure you laughed along with him. He was a friend who could be counted on. Brother in song, sing on! May God's grace comfort the Harris family.

Like others at South Windsor High School in the mid 70's, my memory of Weldon (how is it that we never called him 'Lamar'?) is a fond one. His voice is his legacy. It was wonderful to listen to him sing. "Freddie's Walkin'" was more than memorable and his portrayal of Benjamin Franklin in '1776' was priceless.

My thoughts and prayers to the entire Harris Family.

Dear Mrs. Haris & Family

We are so sorry to hear of your loss of such a great young man.

The harris Family is like family to us as we spent many years growing up together on Ashford Street.

Even though we all moved on and out of the neighborhood, we still managed to keep in touch, as we would take the opprotunity to stop by when you were out selling flowers, It was such a joy just to stop by,and say hello.

I remember the last time I stopped by, Lamar was wheeling around, a smile on his face and in good spirit. I will never forget that precious moment.

Never put a question mark where god has put a period.

We all loved him, but God loved him best

Yours in Christian Love:

Cathy Lewis Branch& Husband James Branch, Monica Lewis Biggins, Sharon Lewis, Christian Cooper & family, Evanna Biggins Holloway & Husband Dereck Holloway & family.

God Keep you and Heaven Smile upon you

Lemar Harris was a member of the Morehouse College Glee Club while he was at Morehouse College. He sang under Dr. Wendell Whalum and was my classmate. I now direct the Glee Club. We had no idea when we were students that our lives would turn out as they have. Lemar with a wonderful loving family. I feel certain that he was even more loving with his family than he was with us; his friends. God, how can you handle THAT much love. I am also certain he was singing the whole way to heaven! I pray God's blessings on his family and that they will be comforted through all the fond memories of such a great guy!

Those of us who went to SWHS with Weldon (class of 75') will always remember his wonderful voice and peaceful spirit. The memory of his performances at the Philadelphia Music Educators National Conference concert, and as Nicely Nicely Johnson in "Guys & Dolls" will be in our hearts forever. We will all sing with our brother again.

To the Harris Family,
Lamar and I became fast friends at Morehouse College and sang in the Morehouse College Glee Club "Brothers In Song Sing On." I have so very many hilarious thoughts running through my mind, with my friend Lamar at the center with his crazy antics. Though I have not seen him in years, I still miss him and will always remember him with great joy, warmth, and song. God be with the Harris family, and I will always celebrate his memory.

I sit here with a smile remembering that wonderful tenor voice that Lemar had and how much fun we used to have at Metro AME Zion singing in the youth choir. We would have rehearse for a couple of hours and then stand outside on the steps singing like we hadn't just finished two hours of rehearsing. Its hard to beleive that was over 30 years ago but I remember that time, Lemar and his wonderful child like spirit that we all loved like it was yesterday. Lemar I know your in that heavenly choir now you better SING! Unitl we meet again. Love you always.
