Bill was a great guy and definitely left a lasting impression. I worked a summer at HDI back a few years ago as well as a couple UConn teammates. I do remember Bill's great sense of humor and that he was always smiling and joking. He was definitely a person with a lot of energy and his positive attitude was contagious. He will be missed but he must be in a better place now. Good Bless you and yours Bill.

To Stehpanie and the Ackerman Family.
Though I haven't seen Billy in decades he did indeed touch lives as everyone has commented. We worked at the Royal together when we were 19 and one night at a company function he sensed I was in trouble. A really creepy guy wouldn't leave me alone and Billy saw him follow me into an isolated bathroom, he grabbed a few people including a female, Dahlia, to check on me. As they opened the door the guy fell backwards as I'd hit him rather hard. He still wouldn't leave me alone and Billy and his buddies detained him until I could leave the dance and he wouldn't be able to follow me. I'm so glad you posted a picture of him, he looks much the same as he did thirty years ago. He always had a smile on his face and could make you laugh easily.

I pray for you all that faith and the support of friends and family will get you through this. I hope that the happy memories of his life can carry you through the ordeal of this horrific tragedy.

I was a classmate of Bill's and lived in the same Enfield neighborhood. I ran into him a few years back and he was the same friendly and funny guy that I knew from high school. It is especially tragic to lose him so young and under such circumstances. He will be remembered fondly by many.

To Bill's Family & Friends;
I had the pleasure of working with Bill over 20 years ago @ Silver Lanes Bowling. I have thought of him fondly over the many past years. He was not someone you could know and forget.
Although it has been over 20 years, the shock and tragedy of his loss cuts like it was yesterday.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and may time and the love and memories you share ease the burden of your loss.

To the Ackerman Family & Stephanie:
We remember Billy playing catch for EHS, partying at Jorgy's (my parents), spoiling our oldest daughter, Stacy.

He certainly was a gentle giant.

To my dear adopted family from 1976 - 78 when Billy and I were sweethearts - mom Ginny, and brothers David, Craig, and Tim: my deepest condolences on the loss of big, sweet Billy. Ginny, I remember the romantic evening you orchestrated for Bill and I after he returned from working the Louisiana oil fields, and the wonderful winter weekends at your family's place in Loon Mtn., NH, where you threw open your doors -- and pantry! -- to Billy's many Enfield High friends. Billy bought me my first guitar, and taught me to ski, and I'll forever be grateful to him for that. Billy had a fine singing voice and we loved crooning with the Eagles to "Victim of Love."
Craig, I remember your kindness in driving me to and from Loon Mtn. to Boston when we were students there. And David, I've often thought back fondly to that cultural eye-opener when we lived in Boston and you treated me to my first Japanese dinner and the potency of sake! You delighted me with your bemused tolerance and wit for our silly high school antics.
It was easy for me then to see where Billy got his generous spirit, his spontaneity, and his easy-going personality. He possessed a giant joie de vie that was infectious and made being with him a joy.
My heartfelt sympathies also go to Stephanie and your children. I have some wonderful photos of Billy from those years that I'll post this week at my Facebook site, Denise Perreault Bead Artist. Enjoy these photos of Bill with his halo of curly blonde hair and twinkling blue eyes. The world will be a sadder place without him

August 6, 2010

Our deepest sympathies to all of Bill's loved ones. He is deeply missed. My husband George & I have known Billy for years. We are too Enfield natives. When I first met Bill he was a bartender at Katies Cafe in Enfield in the 80's, I was a waitress. He taught me to enjoy Grand Marnier slightly warmed - perfectly served - & always at the first snow of the winter's bluff.

He was a straight shooter. Always told it like it was, then he'd wink as he walked away, yet always with a jiggle & a wiggle.

George recalls from EHS Bill always sticking up for anyone - everyone who felt out numbered, picked on or bullied.

Bill was and is a giant teddy bear. Always made me laugh. Always took care of his friends. We saw him a little while back. He stood the same - the Billy I always knew. From Katies to now - to the stars & back. We will always miss you. Always our best
