FULLER, William P.
William P. Fuller died at Windham Hospital, Willimantic, CT on February 4, 2013. He was 65 years old. He was the son of Lewis Nathan Fuller and Claire (Leonard) Fuller. Bill was born and grew up in the Greater Hartford area. He attended St. Mary's Catholic grammar school in East Hartford, CT where he was awarded a gold watch for his academic excellence upon graduating. Bill graduated from East Catholic High School in Manchester, CT despite the onset of a major mental illness with which he contended throughout his life. Bill entered the U.S. Army after high school. He went through his basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Bragg, NC, and paratrooper training at Fort Benning, GA. He received a hardship discharge when his father died and he returned home to operate the small family grocery store. Bill read prodigiously in his youth. He was the family historian, fact finder, and human database. Bill could recall dates, events, and people with precision and commentary. He was forever curious, meeting a wide variety of people of various occupations, ethnicities, and religions from a wide range of social strata. Despite his illness, he was unwavering in his positive regard for others and what they were capable of accomplishing. Bill leaves three brothers, Peter J. Fuller, his wife Anne and their children Nathan and Hallie of Maine, John T. Fuller, his partner Beth of Maine and son Michael of Stafford, CT, and Paul M. Fuller, his wife Dee of Manchester, CT and daughter Sharisse and husband Iva Jean-Jacques and their daughter Ava of Brooklyn, NY. Bill was predeceased by a fourth brother, Matthew Fuller of Hartford, CT. He is also survived by his uncle William Fuller and wife Beverly of Pelham, MA. and several cousins in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
A graveside ceremony will be held in the spring. Family and friends will be notified of the time and place. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

Life is so short, it steals us of time. Memories are flickers of a flame on a very short wick. But when I put together all those flashes of the past of Bill I have an album of joy.
Bill and I went to St. Mary's together. He was the smart kid with always a super smile. We went to different High Schools but meet up again, of all places, Ft. Dix N.J. I still have a black and white photo of us East Hartford guys showing off our bald heads. I move away from Conn. and never saw Bill again - but I do- in those flashes of happiness of the past he gave to me and so many others. Rest in peace my dear friend

Pete, If you get this I would appreciate it if you contact me. I am saddened by the loss of your brother. Bill and you played sports with me all the time in the project. Remember all the fast pitch games, basketball etc. Great memories of long ago when we were just kids. I hope you are well and I am so sorry for the loss of your brother and my old friend. Sincerely, Wayne Van Dine
