The Holidays always make me think about special people I´ve met in my life. Dr Haines was one of them. Many years ago I had an Irish Wolfhound with cancer. At that point He was beyond treatment. I was very young and heartbroken. Dr Haines was kind, gentle, understanding and wonderful. I´ll never forget that!

I was so sorry to learn of Dr. Haines' passing. The kindness and compassion he gave my parents and me as pet owners was amazing. He was our vet for over 30 years and took care of 7 of our dogs. I loved that he was so down-to-earth and he had such a calming presence. He was with me during one of the most difficult days of my life and I will never forget his kindness at that time. I send my condolences to not only his family but all of the wonderful people who worked at Hartford Vet. What a loss to the community as well. I have sat in the waiting room and heard many a phone call and visit where they were assisting with rescues and the humane society. He will be so missed

Dr Haines family & staff, I just wrote a huge condolence with memories of how loving & compassionate Dr Haines & his entire staff was for the last 30 years with our furry boys. Unfortunately I lost the long heartfelt words when trying to add pictures of all our dogs that he cared for in good times & in sad times. I cannot write it again, but we thank him & the staff for all the care & we probably will go to Colchester Animal Hospital as we had great care for surgery for stones in the past. Thank you everyone & I know Dr Haines is in the best part of heaven there is. Fondly, the Roccapriore family Ps the order of pics is off, the Shih tzu with lab should be1st taken in 2001. We got the Shih Tzu in 1992 (Brandon), Midas the lab in 2000. The mixed breed is Beagle/Yorkie named Cody in 09, Toby in 2014 is a Yorkie/ Chihuahua & last pic is our newest Yorkie brothers, Rocky & Bruno. Midas is in 2 pics & so is Cody because of when we got them. God Bless.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Haines. He was always there for my fur family from our four cats to the four dogs always taking very good care of them.
When our German Shepherd was hit by a car, they took her in right away and called me 30 minutes later to tell me that everything was going to be OK just some scrapes and bruises.
No matter what the time no matter what the case you would call and both the staff and the doctor always showed up respect for both the owner and the animal. Dr. Bill will forever be missed. My condolences to the family and the staff.
He´s with all our fur babies up in heaven now.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I feel lucky to have known him as just hearing his name puts a smile on my face and warmth in my heart. He gave so much to so many by just being himself, even without all his wonderful accomplishments. I know there will be an empty place in the Haines family days but what a treasure trove of memories and gratitude they will have to fill it.

My family started bringing our pets to Dr. Haines when I was in elementary school. He saved our Bassett Hound's life by making a housecall at 4am. He was on his way to or from the airport and went out of his way for us. Even after I moved away to North Carolina, I brought my dogs home with me to see Dr. Haines when visiting Mom and Dad. Our family has a special place in our hearts for him. We send our condolences to his family and pray for comfort and peace for all. What a gift he has been to the animals he treated and the families he cared for in doing so.

Dear Haines Family and also Dr Haines devoted work family,
I was so sad to hear Dr. Haines had passed. I have know Dr. Haines since I was a teen and Dr.Larsen had Dr. Bill working along side him. I´m in my seventies now and had many pets along the way so we saw Dr. Bill on a regular basis through the years. I can honestly say he was the kindest man I have ever met. He treated each and every animal like he was their friend and protector.
He made it affordable so we pet parents could afford to give our animals affordable health and be able to keep our pets till they took their last breath. Speaking of that, I remember bringing one of our best beloved cats to Dr. Haines knowing it was time to say good bye to our wonderful family cat. I was so upset that Dr Haines held
Our Ethan till he fell in to his peaceful sleep because I was too upset to do it and he hugged him with such love, and then he hugged me to ease the pain. He was just an angel of a man, he already had wings, I´m sure everyone felt the same way. He is such a hard person to let go of, I wish his dear family and his work family which I will also miss seeing very much, courage and strength and that you think of all the kindness he has given us.
Sincerely, Lu Ryan

My deepest sympathies to Joan and Dr. Bill's family and staff. I am at a loss at trying to find another veterinarian who has to compassion of Dr. Bill.
I have know Dr . Bill most of my life since I was 8 years old. Dr. Bill would come and check on our Fidelco litters of German Shepherd puppies whelped in our basement on Highland Street. When I was old enough to have my own pets, I would bring them to Dr. Bill for care and checkups. I am on my third cat and dog pair as an adult. Dr. Bill has been there for me with my excitement of a new puppy or kitten and at my sadness of my pet's last breaths. He was always amazing in his attention to detail and options of care. One time my cat had been attacked outside on an early Sunday morning, so I took the cat to Bolton Vet. When the cat needed follow-up, I brought it to Dr. Bill and he said, "why didn't you call me?" I told Bill, "it was a Sunday morning and you need your family time and rest." It wasn't the first time he had said that, but it goes to show you how he always was willing to help.
I also wanted to say how I loved to look at his photos of his family on his exam room wall. He was always so proud of his children, Kim, Jeff and Todd, and his grandchildren.
I will miss Dr. Bill and his staff (Pat, John, Bob, Wendy) a great deal. I am honored to be a friend and client of his for so many years. Good Bless, Dr. Bill. May you rest in peace.

Words cannot express the depth of sadness felt when we received a call from John that Dr. Haines had passed.
Dr Haines was an exceptional vet who cared deeply about the animals he treated as well as their human caretakers. Always ready to share a strong hug, share a joke from his grandchildren and update us with pictures that were so proudly displayed in the exam rooms. Doc was proud of his family and his staff and always made prudent, humane decisions for his animal clients. He was a good person who inspired us all to be kind and thoughtful to all creatures.
Thank you for being a wonderful person and doctor and thank you for your wonderful staff for 31 years of loving care. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

"And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. " Micah 6:8
"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." Proverbs 22:1
I met Bill Haines in the early 1970´s when I brought a dog in to see him. That visit began a many-decades-long relationship with him, Dr. Larsen and the wonderful staff at Hartford Veterinary Hospital. Bill was gentle, kind, soft-spoken, compassionate and humble, a man of impeccable character. He was interested not only in his animal clientele, but also in their owners. He always asked about my family and he remembered every dog I had brought to him long after they were gone. I would notice a new photo on his family wall and ask about it and he would proudly tell me all about whichever family member it was. He was a proud dad and an especially proud grandpa. He would often mention his wife Joan and you knew he loved her deeply. Bill never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He was always upbeat and positive, he never made you feel rushed, and he kept current with veterinary medicine and always knew about the latest treatments and procedures. I was always sure that my dogs had the very best care with Bill and his staff. Bill would always give me a hug to say hello and one to say goodbye and in between, he had a corny joke to tell. I moved to Virginia almost 6 years ago now, but have made trips back to CT several times a year to see family. I would always try to stop at HVH to see Bill and his staff. He would come out from the back, give me a hug and spend a few minutes with me. Bill was a rare example of the best that a man can be. I hope he had some inkling of the great number of people who loved him and esteemed him highly. I consider myself so very blessed to have known him and will dearly miss him. My deepest sympathy to his dearly loved family as well as to his staff at HVH.

I am so heart broken to hear of the loss of this very special man. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the beautiful family of Dr Haines and also to his beloved work family: John, Wendy, and Bob who must also be feeling an extraordinary pain over losing such a great boss and friend. I can only imagine the pain both his family and work family must be feeling at this time.
My heart is deeply saddened over losing not only this extraordinary man that I am proud to call a friend for 52 years but also my Vet . I first met Dr. Haines when I was 10 years old and 52 years later I was still taking all of my pets to him. Dr Bill was always so loving and caring to every single one of them and he was always so warm, generous and very friendly to everyone he met. He truly made everyone feel special and as if you were the only person in the world. I am proud to have called Dr. Haines my friend and will miss him tremendously. There will never be another veterinarian or gentleman as extraordinary as Dr. Bill was. He touched everyone's lives in a positive, profound way, brightening everyone's day that crossed his path, not only in the veterinarian office but everywhere he went with his special warmth, his friendliness and his genuine big heart. Dr. Haines will forever be missed. He will live on in the hearts of all who have had the honor of knowing him. We have all lost someone very special and he took a piece of our hearts when he left us but Heaven has surely gained an amazing Angel. Dr. Haines made the world a better place by simply being in it.
Again my heartfelt and deepest sympathy to his family and his work family.
We shall forever miss him. The pain of his loss is felt by so many. He was truly extraordinary.
With Heartfelt and Deepest
Sympathy,

Haines family,
For over 55 yrs Bill was our vet and friend. There are no words to express our sadness. Vet/friend does not even begin to explain our relationship-from back in the day when Bill worked with large animals and those late night calls for colic, choke (our anniversary and the day his son was born) & routine farm calls, Bill was always the kindest man that walked this earth. On our mutual birthday he did an emergency c-section, 6 beautiful pups! The house calls to help our fur babies pass without the stress of going to the hospital and the after hours emergency hospital visit to stitch up what I thought was a couple of puncture wounds that turned our to be several hrs of surgery-all done with a calm, caring loving way. To know him was to love him and my family loved him dearly. Heaven has a new angel and there are a lot of wagging tails and kisses going on up there.

Joan, Kim, Jeff, and Todd,
As you already know there has never been a finer human being than "Dr Bill" Haines. You have been so blessed to have him as a husband and father and now he has moved on to reside in his well deserved place in heaven. Living next door to your family for 20 years is a pleasant memory and my daughters loved the interaction of our families especially the experience of knowing Dr Bill who never hesitated to make a house call when needed. Christmas is always a time for reflecting on the blessings in our lives and I must say that knowing Bill Haines has been a blessing to me and my family. May he rest in peace. Love and prayers to the entire Haines family.

I´m SO SO sorry to read this,
Dr Haines was such a wonderful man and such a wonderful vet. May he frolick in heaven with the animals he loved so much. he knew I was a longtime vegetarian, and every time we saw him he would ask me.
"Do you eat animal crackers ?"
He would always tell me about the zoo that he used to work at.

I got to know Dr Haines through Save-a-Stray, which I'd come across trying to find a home for the dog I'd found in the street. Finally I had to admit that Banjo had found a home for himself, and Dr Haines was his doctor for fourteen years, and helped to ease his end. Since then he's been the vet for my cat Zoe, and she and I love him. We will miss him and his friendly care.

Bill was a one of a kind amazing man and I´m proud to say I truly loved him as both the vet to my pets and my friend. Todd may remember me as the medic who helped him become an EMT. I was Lisa Mailhott or Scirpo back then. I watched all of his children and grandchildren grow up in the pictures on that wall in his office. I asked about and talked to him about you all. He loved his family so much and had such pride in all of you. He always told me how his wife was a saint for dealing with him all these years and how much he loved her. Through the years he helped me get through helping my pets cross over the rainbow bridge and cared for my two labs I have now. He held my crying 14 year old daughter when we put one of my previous labs to rest last year, and taught her how to let go. I will always remember his hugs, if Bill hugged you, he HUGGED you, he held nothing back and I was the receiver of many of them. My heart is broken. There will never be another Bill Haines. I am thankful for the 35+ years of hugs and I will miss them and him everyday. I wish you all love and peace.

Our deepest condolences to Dr. Haines' wife and family, and his staff. We are devastated by this true loss on so many levels. Bill Haines was a top professional in his field, a compassionate caring Veterinarian, and a friend to many people of all ages. I recall those early years when my mother brought all her pets (cats and dogs) to Dr. Larson's office and Bill was a young man assisting Dr. Larson. When Dr. Larson retired, Bill followed through in the tradition that made Hartford Veterinary Hospital a leading place for pet care.
The news is heartbreaking. We will always recall his caring and personal exchanges asking about how members of our family were doing. He cherished his family, which was reflected by the panorama of family photos which included loved pet photos that graced his office wall.
I would often see him at the Nature Center and marvel how he found the time to do so much. A great loss. Our prayers go out to his family.

We have known the Haines since our children were little and went to Highcrest school. Both Bill and Joan worked very hard on the PTO. Once in a while we would run into Bill at Bob´s coffee shop where you could get Dr Bill´s oatmeal. One of my best memories which goes back many years, is the night cruise we took on the Connecticut River in Middletown. It was a beautiful night with music and conversation. Another memory that is sad is when we had to put down our Fluffy dog. Bill always took such good care of our dogs and that included right to the end. He was so gentle and patient and stayed with us through the end. When he handed Fluffy´s collar to me, I broke down and Bill gave a hug that said I understand and am sorry for your loss. And so now we are extending a huge hug to your family, because we are sorry for your loss and ours. He was a very kind and decent person who gave much to our community. May he rest in peace.

Such a devasting loss to our community. Dr. Haines was a vet like none other. My mom and I first went to Hartford Vet Hospital I believe around 1959 with Dr. Larson. I remember when Dr. Haines came to do an internship and so happy he stayed. 8 Dogs, 7 cats - he was wonderful to all and became a friend along with his staff. He even made a few house calls for us. What will I do without him to care for my dog. RIP - there must be a special place in heaven reserved for you and all the furry animals you so lovingly cared for. They must be so happy to see you.

Dr. Haines was my long time doctor for all my dogs for well over 20 years. He was the most kind, gentle, and caring person that truly loved what he did for animals for so very long. Dr. Haines always asked me at every doctor visit about my family and how everyone and myself were doing. He enjoyed talking about his loving family and the wonderful photos hanging proudly on his wall at his practice. It saddened me today to have to go and pick up my medical records of my most recent dog that I got not long ago. The office was empty and I couldn't help but shed a tear realizing that the Hartford Veterinary Hospital would no longer be open anymore. His staff was the most hard working, loving, and caring people that I have ever met which is a true testament to Dr. Haines and the kind of people he wanted there by his side. I will miss Dr. Haines and the Hartford Veterinary Hospital so very much. There will never be another doctor like Dr. Haines. My most deepest sympathy to his loving family during this time and the holiday season.

Bill Haines was not only the vet to many dogs we owned, but also quickly became our friend. He was a man who showed total compassion for the animals in his care. Dr. Bill was my aunts Vet several years ago at seven 7´s farm in Glastonbury. His dedication to animals was beyond measure. just to give you a short story my aunt had a horse with colic Dr. Bill walked the horse for 11 hours. His commitment and caring for animals was beyond extraordinary. Our family later through the years brought several of our dogs to Dr. Bill who cared for our animals with genuine love and compassion . to the Haynes family please accept our sincere condolences may he rest in peace. So sorry to hear about Dr. Haines' passing - he took such wonderful care of our kitties and always with a smile. Even when the kitty looked near death, he would give it a shot or some ointment and within a week, they were mostly healed. He just knew how to treat them! We will miss him!

Mrs. Haines, Kim, Jeff and Todd,
Oh how sad I was to hear the news of Dr. Haines' passing. I have such fond memories of growing up next door to you guys. Your yard was just an extension of our yard! We loved running over to play and visit. I remember how welcomed we always were even when we just dropped in unexpectedly. I can still see Dr. Haines' smile and remember how he used to trick me into thinking I had 11 fingers with his backwards counting trick "10-9-8-7-6 plus 5 is 11!" I will always remember running to your door on Halloween, playing [attempting] basketball on your court, riding a pony in your yard and- of course- Hurricane Gloria- when you lost that beautiful tree in your front yard. Much as your yard was an extension of our yard, I will always consider your family an extension of our family. Dr. Haines will always hold a special place in my heart.

I do not know what I'm going to do with not having Bill around to take care of our dogs. Bill was our Vet for over 50 years. He was a kind and gentle main to both the animals and their owner. It wouldn't make any difference what time you called him, he was there to help. I remember one time one of the dogs was sick. I left a message and he called me back while driving up north.
Rest in God's arms Bill. I am sure that every dog/cat you have taken care of has met you at the gates of heaven.

Dear Joan and family;
Through the years we spent at Hartford Veterniary Hospital with Bill and company, we have been blessed by loving hands caring for our various dogs and cats. We are deeply saddened by Bill's passing and will always have him with us in our memories. In happy and sad times he was the most caring of care givers, always supporting both our pets and ourselves. We will miss him deeply and send our blessings and sympathies to you, all the family, and the HVH staff. Prayers and Love,

Dr.Bill surrounded himself with things that he loved. His exam room that was filled with loving family pictures all his animals and his wonderful staff. I was so sadden to hear of Dr. Haines passing. I´ve known him since I was 10 years old, and would go with him on farm calls and would be allowed into surgery to observe. He was a great influence on me going into the field. Although my career lasted only 8 years due to allergies. When I moved to AZ 16 years ago, I always made a stop when I came home to Wethersfield to the hospital to see him. In fact I even told him he wasn´t charging enough for office visits compared to Az veterinarians ! May you rest in Peace Dr. Haines. You will always be in my heart. May fond memories of happy times help your family through this loss.

In 1996 I got 2 new puppies, I tried 3 other vets before I made an appointment at Hartford Veterinary and when Dr. Haines came in with his calm demeanor and gentle handling of my dogs I knew we had found our Furever vet. I've had a total of 5 dogs since then and they all loved Dr Haines, we will miss his smile and funny stories terribly. Definitely one of a kind human being! My condolences goes out to his family, which I always loved looking at the pics of his family on the walls!
