William Harshbarger Obituary



William D. Harshbarger, died Monday (March 10, 2014) at Caleb Hitchcock in Bloomfield. He was born in Danville, Illinois on May 3, 1925. He was the son of Velma W. and Lloyd E. Harshbarger. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Harshbarger graduated from the University of Michigan with his B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering and from the University of Pennsylvania with a MA degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he lived in Swarthmore, PA and worked for Westinghouse Aircraft and Gas Turbine. In 1955 he came to Hartford to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and retired in 1994. Mr. Harshbarger was predeceased by his wife, M. Virginia Wilhelm Peters whom he married in 1957. They resided in West Hartford for more than forty years. He leaves his son Robert D. Harshbarger (Pamela) and three grandchildren, Marni Renee, Keri Marie, and Todd Wiley of LaGrange, Illinois. He also leaves a stepdaughter, Dency Peters Kane of New York. Funeral services will be Friday, with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the Great Room at Caleb Hitchcock Health Care Center, 10 Loeffler Rd. Bloomfield. Burial is private in Hamden. Molloy Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
