William Hassett Obituary

William Powell Hassett, 80, of Burlington, died June 17, 2017. Bill was born February 1, 1937 in Hartford, the son of the late William J. and Evelyn I. Hassett, and grandson of William F. and Honore Quinn Hassett and Bernard H. and Grace Kemp Powell. He was the loving husband of Lynde Marshall Hassett. Bill graduated from St. Joseph School, Bristol High School, Cheshire Academy and attended UConn. Bill spent his working life in sales and marketing management in petroleum and heavy trucks and equipment. He enjoyed traditional jazz and opera and was a member of the Encore Society of The Metropolitan Opera and Glimmerglass Opera. He was a past officer of the English Setter Club of New England. Bill was a member of the Burlington Republican Town Committee. A lifelong Yankees fan, Bill also followed the exploits of the UConn women's basketball team. Home always revolved around music and the dogs he shared his life with. Glimmerglass and Tanglewood hold especially fond memories of good times. Bill enjoyed talking about politics past and present and reliving stories of their youth with good friends. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Bill is survived by his sister Karen Blennerhassett and nephew Michael Dube both of Lamoine, ME and nephew Jean-Paul Taillon of Sedgwick, ME. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. Burial will be private in Peacedale Cemetery. I noticed Bill had called when I was away last year but he did not leave a message. I now regret I did not following up on his call. Enjoyed talking with him at class reunions and our 75th Birthday event. I remember well his dedication to the New York Yankees. He said he bled blue. He must have been happy to have seen the NYY in first place! My deepest sympathy to you, Lynde.

Bill was a very special friend...losing him is so very sad but the memory of him will be forever precious. Along with the late Jim Tracy, Lynde & Bill, I shared times equaled by none. My heart goes out to you Lynde & I send my sincerest, personal sympathies.....

Bill has been one of my favorite people in Burlington. He has always been so full of life, a very interesting fellow. A true Republican, a true believer in the conservative way of life. What a joy talking to him about many topics. I have been missing him, and will always hold him dear in my heart. He has been a good friend. Prayers for Lynde for strength during this time of sorrow. Bless You Bill!
