KLEINMAN, William
William Kleinman, 92, of West Hartford, died peacefully, Saturday, (April 27, 2013) with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband, for 61 years, of the late Bernice Zelda (Lieberman) Kleinman. Born in Poland, he was the son of Joseph and Rose (Nuva) Kleinman. He immigrated to the US in 1927 with his family and they settled in Buffalo, NY. He was a graduate of Indiana University majoring in Physical Education. He also attended Eastern Connecticut State College. He received a certificate in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree from what is now the Central Connecticut State University. He was a World War II US Navy veteran having served from 1943 - 1945 as Chief Petty Officer for recruit training. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Laurel Post, #45. William worked as an Elementary school teacher at the Whiting Lane School in West Hartford for 19 years. He then taught ESL in the Hartford public school system for 21 years. For many years, he taught Sunday school at the Emanuel Synagogue and Beth El Temple in West Hartford. He was a former member of the Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield. William was an avid reader, and engaged in friendly games of poker, loved working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by two sons; Dr. Ronald E. Kleinman and his wife, Martha of Boston, MA and David P. Kleinman and his wife Azize of Delray Beach, FL, and two daughters; Debra Kleinman-Downey and her husband David, of West Hartford, and Heidi S. Kleinman of Bloomfield. He also leaves four cherished and adored grandchildren; Adam Kleinman of Boston, MA, Emily (Kleinman) Golin and her husband, Scott of Boston, MA, Gabriela and Olivia Downey of West Hartford and two great-grandchildren; Avery and Ellie Golin of Boston, MA. William was predeceased by his sister Ann Kleinman.
A funeral will be graveside with full military honors on Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a.m. with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating at the Beth Hillel Memorial Park Cemetery, 15 Wolcott Rd., in East Granby, (off of Floydville Rd.). Following interment and for the remainder of the day, the family will receive friends at 35 Spice Bush Lane in Bloomfield. The family expresses a heartfelt appreciation to William's caregiver, Avis "Jean" Jarrett for her exceptional care, love and devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Jewish War Veterans, the American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, Inc., West Hartford.

I learned to outline in sixth grade from Mr. Kleinman in the 1960s. Back in the days where teachers dressed in suits for class, I will remember him as a gentleman.
