SOYKA, William John
William John Soyka, 81, of Plainville and Lady Lake, FL, widower of Patricia (Murawski) Soyka, died Wednesday at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Britain, he graduated from New Britain High School, served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was employed at Southern New England Telephone Company until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul Church, Elks Lodge #957 B.P.O.E., V.F.W. Post #511, and American Legion Post #68, and was a lifelong Red Sox and UCONN Huskie Fan. He spent his summers in Connecticut enjoying time with his family and friends, but he came to truly love his life at The Villages in Florida whether he was golfing, fishing, or just hanging out by the pool. He is survived by three sons, Michael Soyka of Middletown, William Soyka of Berlin, and James Soyka of Wallingford; a daughter Kimberly Knopf of Plainville; and a granddaughter, Katelyn Knopf. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his father, John Soyka; his mother, Anna (Evanyo) Soyka Remecki; his stepfather, Michael Remecki; and his sister, Helen Kulis.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy. in Kensington, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Church. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183. There will always be many fun memories from the past and what a wonderful time was had last September visiting with cousin Billy and his children. He always made sure my Mom was up to date with the Red Sox. He is loved and will be missed.
