Zita Duffy Obituary
Zita T. Duffy, 93, of Simsbury, beloved wife of the late John P. Duffy, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at home surrounded by her family. She was born March 19, 1924, in the Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Desider and Zora (Poppel) Schoen. Zita was a member of the Simsbury Women's Club, she was awarded the 1999 Simsbury Hometown Hero Award, and an avid volunteer at McLean's and Avon Health Center. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was an avid sports fan, especially the New York Mets, UCONN Women's Basketball and Miami Dolphins. Zita is survived by her children, Diane Duffy of Tempe, AZ, Deidre E, Duffy of Simsbury, and Denis V. Duffy of Rutland, VT; grandchildren, Virginia Hilderbrand of Sacramento, CA, Suzanne Hilderbrand of Chico, CA, Carolyn Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, Kristen Keveney of Fredericksburg, VA, and Rodney Hunter, Jr. of Casselberry, FL; a companion Zsa Zsa Duffy of Simsbury, CT. In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by a daughter, Denise A. Hilderbrand and a sister Lillian Anderson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Burial will be private. Whenever I felt down, the only thing that would brighten my day is think back to something you said or we did. I will forever remember our "N.Y. play day. From when the limo arrived in my driveway, lunch at Sardi's, the play and then the limo again to go home. But this trip home was more fun...wine and hordorves. I will
