GREGG THOMPSON Obituary

Gregg Mackey Thompson of Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away on January 5, 2025.

Gregg was born in Los Angeles, CA on December 4, 1955 to James Bennet Thompson and Martha Joan Mackey, followed by younger sister Carol Joan Thompson.

Gregg attended San Marino High School and was a member of the Class of 1974. After meeting Irene Margaret Christine Veldman on the water in Havasu 40 years ago, he married her two years later at Highland Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Redlands, CA. They enjoyed a life of love, laughter, and boating together. After the wedding, they lived in Pasadena and later Altadena where they raised their daughters, Christy and Kim.

Gregg started working for Alard Machine Products in 1979 and bought the company in 1987, after which he grew Alard from just 1 employee and 7 machines to 150 employees and over 100 machines, before his retirement and sale of the business in 2022. His daughter, Christy, came to work there in 2012 and is continuing in the business today.

Gregg was defined by playful curiosity and a desire to experience life to the fullest. From a young age, he was an avid lover of big toys with rumbling motors - motorcycles, cars, and boats - and made many like-minded friends through the organizations of which he was a member throughout his life, including the Pasadena Speedboat Club, Pasadena Motorcycle Club, Grand National Racing Association, Isthmus Yacht Club, and Catalina Island Yacht Club.

Gregg loved to travel with his family to the Colorado River and Lake Havasu to go boating, and explored the western USA in their RV. He completed many long motorcycle tours, including the "Three Flags Classic" (where he rode from Mexico to Canada in four days), and cross-country trips to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the Four Corners. In 2007 Gregg and Irene bought their first ocean boat and enjoyed cruising to Catalina Island every summer to enjoy the sun, warm breezes, and beautiful blue waters.

A lover of both God and country, Gregg's Christian faith was very important to him. He grew up singing in the choir at San Marino Community Church and found community in various churches that he attended throughout his life, including Sierra Madre Congregational Church and Calvary Baptist Lake Havasu.

Surrounded by his loved ones, Gregg took his last breath in their home in Havasu, where this chapter of his life began and ended. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Irene, and their two daughters, Christine Joan Thompson, 35, of Los Angeles, CA, and Kimberly Irene Thompson, 32, of Boulder, CO, to whom Gregg was a proud and loving father.
