John F. Gabbard, 74, departed this life on Friday, Feb. 6, at his residence in Hazard. He was born in Hazard, the son of the late Tom Gabbard and the late Anna Juanita Smith Gabbard. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ramona, Margaret, and Elizabeth; and his brother, Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Campbell Gabbard; three daughters, Susan and Robert Brashear, Diane and Glen Combs and Anna Laura and Gary Roark; his son, John Alan and Jane Gabbard; sister, Tommy G. Bailey; brother, James Gabbard; brother-in-law, Donnie Campbell; grandchildren, Candace Combs, Justin Combs, Brittany Kelly, Barrett Brashear, Megan Watts, Taylor Gabbard, Spencer Brashear, Max Kelly, Ally James, and Barrett James; great-grandchildren, Jayce, Hayden, Isabella, and Mallory; special family, the Drinkard family of Cullman, Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Arrangements were handled by the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home in Hazard, where family received friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, and a memorial service was held following directly after, with Jody Maggard officiating
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Relay For Life.

Dear Cindy and Family,

Cindy, I'm so very sorry for our loss. I think John would want us to remember Jesus during our grief, because it is Jesus that insures us we will see John again someday and that makes it easier to bear.
