Kay Coomes Obituary
EMIENCE
Kay (Poe) Coomes, age 79 of Eminence, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Daughter of the late George Earl and Viola Thomas (Hale) Poe, she was a dedicated wife, mom and Nanny who devoted her life to the love and care of her family. Widow of the late Benjamin P. "Ben" Coomes, she was a constant partner and supporter of his law career and many community activities. She was a longtime faithful member of Eminence Baptist Church. A southern lady at heart, Kay enjoyed gardening, fine art, bird watching, and sewing. Most of all, her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Don Sr., Paul and Bill Poe.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Moore of Walton, Ky.; her son, Benny Coomes (Lisa) of Smithfield; four grandchildren, Jacob Moore (Emily Kate), Rachael Sholar (Greg),
Emily Coomes Downing (Ben) and Andrew Coomes (Terralynn); nine great-grandchildren, Brody, Everly Kay, Kennedy, Judah, Brooks, Parker, Sutton, Beckett and Finley; and her brother, Tommy Poe (Geraldine) of Louisville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Eminence Baptist Church. Reverend Michael Duncan and Reverend Clint Walker will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Eminence Baptist Church.
The burial will be in Eminence Cemetery.
Form of contributions may be given to Eminence Baptist Church, Eminence Independent Schools in care of the Ben P. Coomes Scholarship fund or Hosparus.
