Nina Lee (McCoun) Mason, age 89, of New Castle, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at her residence with her loving family by her side.
Daughter of the late Herbert Harlin, Sr., and Cletis Evelyn (Toll) McCoun. She was a faithful member of New Castle Methodist Church for many years, where she served on the Board of Trustees. Graduating from Henry County High School as Class President, she was also honored to be crowned Miss Henry County. A dedicated citizen of New Castle, she volunteered with the Henry County EMS and was once awarded citizen of the year by the New Castle Lions Club. A loving wife and mother, she devoted her life to taking care of her family. Known as a wonderful baker, her homemaking skills extended beyond her home and family. She enjoyed gardening and collecting marbles with her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George R. Mason, Sr., and her brother, Burney C. McCoun.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Brammell (Jimmy) of New Castle and Martha Hill (Randy) of Winder, Ga.; sons, Robert Mason of New Castle and George Mason, Jr. (Lora) of Lawrenceburg; her sister, Blanche (McCoun) Shelton of Orlando, Fla.; her brothers, Herbert McCoun of Shelbyville and Scottie McCoun of Shelbyville; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Reverend Ernie Perry will officiate and Bro. Dan Mattingly of New Castle Methodist Church will assist. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the funeral home. The burial will be in New Castle Cemetery.
