Back in 2004, my wife and I were in Disneyland awaiting the Disneyland parade when I heard a familiar voice standing a few feet behind us.
I didn't look behind me but knew it was Rich. I turned and he looked at me and asked? Joe, what are you doing here? I asked the same and we had a nice time talking about the coincidence of seeing each other in Disneyland. He then introduced me to Joyce and all family who were with him. For my wife and me, just a nice memory........

I remember Rich as a very kind person, along with Joyce and family. It was always a pleasure being around them as kids. We use to take swimming lessons from him and visit them at their home at the Russian River. Rich, even took my brother Greg and I fishing once up to Squaw Rock. That was a fun day. First we went to a nearby creek to catch, I think it was baby eel with digging buckets , for bait and then we went up to Squaw Rock. I remember the suspension bridge that cross the Russian River and catching some nice trout.

I am sorry for your family's loss. I enjoyed spending time with Rich and his teammates from the 1950's era Stockton Ports. Wonderful memories and a group of kind and interesting people that enjoyed talking about baseball and life.

My fondest memory of Rich was when he was in the P.E. Department of Luther Burbank Jr. High in 1958 while I was a student. At Balboa, he was always there to take my phone call and give me Athletic information for the Alumni newsletter and my Hall of Fame Committee. In recent years, we spoke often by phone and our conversations always reached back to the Luther Burbank days and often got a little silly. He´d tell me to do a hundred push ups. Then, we´d have a good laugh.
Balboa Alumni Assn. will miss him and so will I.

God Speed to my Godfather! A beautiful human. Any person that I spoke to that knew him, always had wonderful things to say about him. He was an amazing athlete. He was a football referee, baseball player, tennis player, Santa, coach, teacher, friend and so much more. You will be missed my many, but our lives are fuller because of you!

I spent a semester at Poly in the Fall of '69. Rich was the Athletic Director. One
of the nicest guys I've ever met. Very humble. Always spoke of what others had
achieved, never himself. His body of work and how he treated people were
second to none. RIP Rich.

A great man, great baseball player and even better husband, father and grandfather. My pleasure to have known Rich and be able to spend numerous times taking about baseball. He was truly a class act in every way.
