Joyce Bruce Obituary

V. Joyce Bruce, age 85 of Helena Mt. passed away December 13 2024 of natural causes at her home with her husband Gordon at her side. She was born April 18th 1939 in Lewistown Montana to the late George and Alice Vuylstake however she grew up in Story and Sheridan Wyoming, Her parents were musicians playing music throughout popular towns in Montana and Wyoming.
Joyce married early in life having a son, Robert J Lyman. In 1961 Joyce married the love of her life Gordon Bruce and established a life in Baker. Later, their careers brought them to Helena where she began a thirty year career with the veterans administration until her retirement Joyce was well liked by her co-workers at Fort Harrison and they were all her family. Retirement was spent as Snowbirds in various courts in Arizona where they had many friends.
Joyce was a masterful crafter and spent many enjoyable hours creating exquisite quilts and handcrafted gifts. She spent enjoyable years with her quilting group often traveling hether and yon with these girls.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Gordon Bruce, her grandchild, Robert Jay Lyman, his wife and great grand children. Also nieces Diane Wilson, Kathy Niner, nephews Steve Fountains and Jim Rixdahle.
People who knew her would agree with Gordon's niece Linda who said quote Joyce was a kind talented Loving Lady who will be greatly missed.
Services for Joyce will be held Friday December 20th 2024 1:30 p.m. at Montana State veterans cemetery Fort Harrison.
Directly following we will celebrate her life with a meal flowers and memorabilia that Overland Express.

I was recently sent the notice of Joyce's passing by Chuck Bentzen of Sheridan.
I just wanted to say I remember Joyce as a fellow member of the 1954 freshman class at Sheridan High School.
She was a tall beauty with the most incredible red hair and I remember she had a lovely singing voice and was a member of the Glee Club.
I was happy to hear that her life was a happy one. May she rest in peace.
