Michael Allen Voeller
Nov. 28, 1979 - Nov. 6, 2022
HELENA - Michael Allen Voeller, age 42, of Helena, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours November 6, 2022, after a long courageous battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving parents, and constant companion Scout, his German Shepard.
Michael was born in Great Falls, MT, on November 28, 1979, the only child of Jim and Debbie Voeller.
At an early age Michael had an adventurous soul, he was an avid swimmer, skate boarder, downhill skier, RC car racer, fisherman, and card player. He was a member of Missoula and Helena YMCA Youth Action Committees, the Missoula Boy Scouts, and played the trumpet in summer band camps. He had a love for amphibians and always had a variety of exotic lizards and frogs but was most partial to his Iguana Izzy. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle around the great state of Montana to explore all the sights to see. He was also into anything electronic and was good at video games and wouldn't hesitate to beat the pants off you! Yes, he was very competitive.
Michael graduated from Capital High, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to Fort Knox in Kentucky for basic training and AIT as a Cavalry Scout. Following basic he was station at Fort Lewis, WA, where he was deployed to Korea where he spent a year at the DMZ. It was in Korea he reenlisted in the military. Returning to Fort Lewis he transitioned to the Stryker Brigade Combat Team and deployed to Iraq for 18 months. After Serving in Iraq, he went back to school at Fort Sam Houston to train as a Radiology Technician with the goal of working at Fort Harrison in Helena, serving veterans. From Fort Sam Houston he was assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, WA, to complete his internship, graduating in 2008. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer one week before his graduation, starting his 16-year journey battling cancer.
He spent the rest of his life as a disabled veteran going through numerous rounds of chemo and radiation treatments but was always able to keep a wonderful sense of humor through it all. Daily activities became very difficult for him, but he did his best to participate in his childrens' events and activities which was extremely difficult as the brain tumor attacked his memory.
Michael is preceded in death by grandparents, Angie and Frank Voeller, Henry and Edith Hoff; uncles: Robert Hoff, and Kevin Hoff; and numerous brothers-in-arms.
Michael is survived by his parents, Jim and Debbie Voeller; his children: Claire Nevaeh Voeller and Danielle Celeste Voeller; aunts and uncle: Diane (Steve) Dahlman, Richard (Connie) Hoff; numerous others, and cousins. His beloved caregiver, Katie Rose, and numerous more brothers-in-arms.
Special thanks to Hospice of Helena, Visiting Angels (Katie Rose) for her excellent care, and Anderson Stevenson Wilke for their compassionate and tender care of our son.
Michael will be laid to rest at Montana State Veterans cemetery with full military honors.
