Robert Crants Obituary

Robert "Bob" James Crants

HELENA - Robert "Bob" James Crants of Helena, at the age of 85, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

After graduating from high school with Honors, Bob attended the Montana State University. His math skills led him to a lifetime career with the Montana State Highway Department.

Bob married Evelyn, the love of his life in 1957. Because of Bob's lifetime membership in Scouting, Elks, and Kiwanis, Bob was loved by many and loved many. His devotion to giving and offering a helping hand made him an angel on earth. His lasting friendships showed the testament of good life.

Bob was preceded in passing by his wife, Evelyn; and son, Patrick.

He is survived by his brother, Duane; daughter, Diana Crants; and son, Mark (Teresa) Crants.

A Graveside Service at Forestvale Cemetery will be held in the upcoming weeks with service information to be announced. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Bob Crants was one of the neatest people I've ever met. Just postitive, hard working, super knowledgeable, and always efficient. Quick with a big smile. He was our scout leader, the summer we did 10, 15, 25 and 50 miler hikes - an epic summer. The photo is our group (Bob on left) in the Mission Mts, August 1979 or 80.
RIP Bob, you certainly had a positive impact on my life.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. On behalf of the Helena Elks Lodge #193 we're remembering all that Bob did for the Elks and sending our prayers to his family and loved ones.

I met Bob in 1972 on Rosebud Creek at a hot plant working for the Montana Highway Dept. During our careers with the Dept. we worked together in a number of seminars, projects and committees. He was one of the really good guys. I learned a lot from him. When some sort of construction crisis was happening he was the voice of calm and reason and good advice. It was a real pleasure and honor to have known Bob and worked with him. He was one of the best! My sympathies to the family.

I´m so sad we have lost Bob. He and my Dad were friends for many, many years and I consider(ed) Bob, Evy and Diana friends of mine as well. I´ll never forget Bob sweating up a storm making steak sandwiches at the fairgrounds year after year. It was well over 100° most of the time back there but that didn´t stop Bob.! He will be missed terribly.

I had the honor to work with Bob for a number of years. He was a hard working, dedicated person truly interested in serving the people of Montana.
I learned a lot from Bob over the years. There are not many roads in Montana where Bob didn't have a positive influence.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Bob, he was a good friend of my father in law and husband, which is how I got to know him. He was a fantastic man, husband and friend.
