Bobby Overby Obituary

BOBBY LEE OVERBY, 72, of Lavalette, WV, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on September 14, 2025. He was born October 8, 1952, in Huntington, WV, the only child of Charles and Regina Overby.
He is survived by his wife Debbie Hutchinson Overby, daughter Nikki (Daniel) Fint of Sissonville, WV, daughter Sherri (Dale) Herdman of West Portsmouth, OH, grandchildren Brennan Overby and Kendal Matthews, brother and sister-in-law Richard (Jan) Hutchinson and Pam Curry and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Regina, parents in law Wilford and Beulah Hutchinson, and brother-in-law Rodger Hutchinson.
Bob was someone who cared deeply about his community. Among other things, he served on various committees, coached youth sports, and spent most of his life following his true passion for fire and EMS service. He was a 30-year member of the Lavalette Volunteer Fire Department where he also served as Chief for 19 years. He retired from Cabell Huntington Hospital in 2017 after serving as the manager of Pre-Hospital Services.
After graduating from Buffalo High School in 1970, he began filming all their varsity football games. He continued filming even after their consolidation into Spring Valley High School. There he began filming both varsity football and basketball games. He looked forward to the games but even more he loved the time spent with his "travel buddies" Jim Thornburg, Ron Terry, and Terry Porter. They told stories (very likely GREATLY embellished), laughed a lot, and always found a good meal along the way. He filmed for over 50 years and reluctantly had to give it up when Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia made it impossible for him to continue.
Although community involvement was very important to him, family was his priority. His daughters and grandchildren were an endless source of pride for him. The love of his life, Debbie, was by his side from ninth grade on and they recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lavalette Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Huntington

I´m sorry to hear of Bob´s passing. Even though I haven´t seen him for a while he was always a friend. We worked together at the Wayne Jail for several years and we already knew each other attending Buffalo together.
Praying for peace for you and your family.
