CLEO WATSON Obituary

REV. CLEO WATSON made his final move into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Perkins Ridge Cemetery, Willow Wood, Ohio, with Proctorville VFW Post 6878 conducting military graveside rites. He was greeted in heaven by his parents Jay and Nellie Watson, his son Donnie and his great-granddaughter Ruby Gracyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Delsie of Scottown; son Danny (Sharon) Watson and Colleen Toppings of Scottown; daughter Peggy (Darren) Shobe of Lavalette, W.Va.; grandson Jay (Mendy) Watson of Newport Richie, Fla.; granddaughter Kacey (Ben) Johnson of Wayne, W.Va.; great-grandsons Lincoln and Max Johnson of Wayne, great-grandson Christian (Laura) Watson of Huntington and their son Liam, his only great- great-grandchild; one brother, Charlie "Cap" (Carolyn) Watson of South Point, Ohio. Cleo also leaves behind his very special friend Tony Dowden of Scottown who has been selflessly devoted for several years to caring for and being a friend to him and his family. Cleo was born May 1, 1926. He served in the US Navy during World War II and then retired from Houdaille Industries. But the majority of his life was spent serving the Lord. During the last 52 years, he has pastored several area churches and held too many revivals to name. He was the pastor of Ceredo Christian Baptist church for 30 years and for the last four years made his home at Scottown Independent Community Church. Cleo was a soldier for God; a faithful servant for His Kingdom. He was a wonderful teacher, counselor, friend, and brother who spent countless hours visiting the sick and the lost in the community. Always early, he would sometimes beat the patient who was having surgery to the hospital. He had an avid interest in anything with wheels and a motor but more than anything he loved airplanes. He devoted a big part of his life to the Lawrence County Airpark where he spent countless hours doing what he loved. They called him a late bloomer as he received both his high school diploma and his pilot's license at the age of 70. As good as he was to everyone in the community, he was even better to his family. He was the best husband, dad, father-in-law and papaw that there could ever be. He loved his family more than anything in this world and did everything in his power to make sure everyone was happy, healthy, and had everything they needed. He leaves behind a legacy like no other of unwavering faith in our Heavenly Father and gave us hope of seeing him again one day because of the free gift of salvation. In 1961 God placed him on the firing line, and he kept on it faithfully until he made his final move. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

He was a blessing to so many

Peggy and Family - I am so heartbroken and I wanted to be there but limited flights. His impact on my life will be forever. The most humble Man of God I have ever met. His sermons were so spirit filled I can relive them when I think of him. He loved and showed his love to all and that too impacted me. He allowed me to feel a touch of God and understand what that meant as a young child. Delsie was such a woman of God by his side. God has a pair of jewels in them. My heartfelt sympathy to you all. I loved him and everything he stood for. There is not a lot like him. He was one of a kind and I am so blessed to have been a part of his life to hear the word of God. Love and comfort to you all.

I cannot express just how much Cleo was a part of my life. As you know, I grew up at Ceredo Christian Baptist and those are still some of the most memorable times of my life. It was very fitting and an honor it was to have him marry Mike and I. Just to give you all a giggle on what is a very sad time I want to share one memory with you. During our wedding, a really good friend of mine sang a song that to this day brings me to tears. I was literally having a meltdown. Cleo takes my hand, looks me in the eyes and says are you going to be ok, are you sure this is what you want. I had to explain to him that it was the song giving me the meltdown. Now when I sit back and think (almost 20 years later), it gives me a little giggle. He played a bigger role in my life than anyone realizes. It brings me peace to know what a celebration it is in Heaven when he meets with those who have passed before. Many prayers and hugs, love you all like family, and I wish I could be there in person. Love, Kathi Jo (Nichols) Valdez.
