David James Lambert

DAVID JAMES LAMBERT, 90, of Huntington, WV, passed away on June 4, 2024, at the Woodlands in Huntington. Born on June 1, 1934, in Jackson, Ohio, he was the son of Chauncy Isaac Lambert and Nancy Jane Staten Lambert. After graduating from Jackson (Ohio) High School, he continued his education at Ohio University, earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Following his college graduation, Mr. Lambert began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Huntington (WV) district where he spent his entire career, eventually working his way to become the Assistant Chief, the highest civilian position in the district. While at the Corps of Engineers, he received a Congressional commendation for his work with beneficial overland application of wastewater in Deer Creek, Ohio and led the Corps' disaster relief efforts in Buffalo Creek, WV, following the 1972 flashflood tragedy. Mr. Lambert was a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church for more than 65 years where he was active as a Board member, elder, choir soloist and Sunday School teacher. He was also very active in his community, serving as a youth baseball and basketball coach for many years in the Westmoreland area of Huntington. Mr. Lambert was predeceased in death by his parents, his brothers Claude Lambert, John W. Lambert and Sanford Lambert, and his sister Grace Lambert Compston. Mr. Lambert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judith Miller Lambert; two sons, John G. Lambert (Sally) of Sugar Land, TX, and Tim A. Lambert of Lexington, KY; and three granddaughters, Jessica Rudd Lambert, Sally Wren Lambert and Molly Jane Lambert. Visitation will be held at Reger Funeral Home in Huntington, 1242 Adams Avenue, on Saturday, June 8 from 7:30 p.m.to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Madison Avenue Christian Church, 712 12th St. W., on Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. Condolences can be made at www.regerfh.com.
