David Sammons Obituary

DAVID "EUGENE" SAMMONS, 67 of Dunlow, West Virginia passed peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Eugene was born in West Hamlin, West Virginia to the late Joe and Emma Thompson Sammons on January 12, 1957. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a nephew, Charles Edward Sammons II and a brother-in-law, Neil Hurley. Eugene was a 1975 graduate of Crum High School and a 1979 graduate of Marshall University.
He was employed by the Wayne County Board of Education for 40 years. During those years he served as a teacher or administrator in Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Schools. He ended his career as the Director of the Bus Garage.
Over the years, Eugene enjoyed supporting Cabwaylingo Forest Foundation and it's activities. Eugene has attended God's Full Gospel Church in Dunlow, where he has taught and preached God's Word for 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Gail Porter Sammons; his best buddy, his son Joshua David Sammons of Kenova, West Virginia who he loved so very much. Eugene and Josh loved working together on home improvement projects, vehicles, attending car shows, and just hanging out. He also leaves behind five siblings: Gerald (Geraldine) Rosser of Prichard, West Virginia, Joann Sammons Hurley of Huntington, WV, Donald (Gloria) Sammons of Las Vegas, Nevada, Charles (Judy) Sammons of Crum, West Virginia, and Karen (Steve) Hensley of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving him are many nieces, nephews, and friends.
God put in Eugene, a heart for those in need. We want to share one of the many highlighted scriptures in his Bible, I John 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother in need and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 13, at the Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Lonnie Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Joe Sammons Cemetery at Webb, West Virginia. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.
Care for Eugene and his family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home, Louisa, KY.
