DEBORAH LYNN MESSINGER, 72, of Barboursville, WV, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2026, while in Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Jeremy Harless officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.
She was born on February 3, 1954, in Logan, WV, a daughter of the late Billie and Barbara Lou Murray Caldwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Messinger; a sister, Dreama Caldwell; and a brother, Freddie Caldwell.
She was a retired teacher from St. Joseph Central Catholic High School and taught at Marshall University and Mountwest Community College.
Debbie was a strong lady that loved the Lord. She loved to help others and wanted happiness and success for everyone. Debbie was a "ROCK" to many family and friends because of her prayer life and her strength. She enjoyed teaching young people and watching them soar towards building their dreams. Debbie's life was an example to us that we can all live by and knowing her was a blessing to many people. She is finally resting and at peace. She is HOME where she strived her entire life to be!
Survivors include: a daughter, Kristy Harless of Barboursville; a grandson and his fiancée, Nathaniel Harless and Grace Jarvis, of Lavalette, WV; a great granddaughter, Ryleigh Kitchen; a soon to be born great granddaughter, Loretta Harless; a special son-in-law, Chris Harless of Huntington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita Cantrell of Logan, WV and Carolyn and Clyde Marcum, of Naugatuck, WV; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Billy Caldwell and Pete and Jodi Caldwell, all of Logan, WV, and Michael and Jenny Caldwell of Gilbert, WV; two sisters-in-law, Margie Caldwell of Kiahsville, WV and Kay Slone of Huntington; brother-in-law, Jody Messinger; and many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from Noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the funeral home.
