ELAINE HUBBELL WILBURN

1922 - 2016

ELAINE HUBBELL WILBURN passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the age of 93 in Katy, Texas. She was born on December 2, 1922, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, to Richard Van Arsdale Hubbell and Marian Earle Hubbell. She grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, and attended junior college in Maine. On April 6, 1942, she married Frederick Conrad Wilburn in Boston, Massachusetts. During Fred's time in the Marine Corps, she lived in North Carolina, Pleleliu, Hawaii, California, New York and South Carolina. After Fred's retirement from the Marine Corps in 1960, they moved to Huntington, W.Va. Elaine was a very active member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church and her community for 48 years. She was a talented square dancer and an avid bowler. She enjoyed traveling and cruising. She visited Japan, Europe, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Alaska, Hawaii and transited the Panama Canal. In 2008 she moved to a retirement community in Katy, Texas. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Wilburn and his wife Kathleen from Katy, Texas, their children Elizabeth Lewis and Christopher Wilburn; Elaine's daughter, Gloria Wilburn Phelan and her husband Conan from Richmond, Virginia, their children Michael Phelan, Mary Phelan and Katherine Phelan, and Mary's son Aedan; as well as other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Conrad Wilburn. The family will hold a private service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
