Geoffrey Ezell Obituary

GEOFFREY HERMAN EZELL, 75, of Webster Springs and Huntington, WV passed from this world on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was born August 24, 1949, in Washington D.C., the son of the late Charles and Carol Ezell. He lived his life by the virtues of his Catholic faith, in word and deed.
Geoff was raised in Falls Church, Virginia, where he graduated from George C. Marshall High School in 1967. He graduated from West Virginia University with an undergraduate degree in Russian. During his time at WVU, Geoff met his beloved wife, Lois Ackley Anderson. Geoff and Lois were married in 1973, and started their life together in Webster Springs, WV.
Hired as a teacher for the Webster County Board of Education, Mr. Ezell, as he was known by his school community, obtained his teachers certification and returned to WVU to complete coursework for his master's degree in educational administration. He worked as an educator for 32 years prior to retiring, with 21 years as principal of Webster Springs Elementary School. He is lovingly remembered by students, teachers, and the community for his impact as an educator, memorable field trips, and steady presence.
Once retired, Geoff devoted his time to his family and adventure. Retirement allowed him to spend more time doing the things he loved, hunting, camping, golfing, sailing, reading, watching his grandchildren play sports, and playing all kinds of games.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Adrienne Anderson Ezell. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lois; his children, Bryson (Jan) Ezell, Cynthia (Bryan) Swalley, and Nathan (Andrea) Ezell; his grandchildren, Alexander and Colin Ezell, Allyson, Lydia, and Ty Swalley, and Brooks Ezell, as well as his brothers Charles (Cathy), Craig (Helen), and Jonathan (Lisa), many nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and students.
Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2025, at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs, WV with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Webster Springs, WV. Per his request, his remains will be cremated and interred with his daughter in Oneida, NY.
Given Geoff's dedication to the children of Webster County, and his desire to provide them with opportunities to see, experience, and learn, the family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Geoff Ezell Memorial Field Trip fund. The fund will provide financial assistance for students who need help to participate in field trips.

August 6, 2025

Was very sorry to hear of Geoff's passing. Went to George C. Marshall High School with Geoff, and recently reconnected with him at a couple of class reunions. He, Bill Barden and I represented the class of '67 in the reunion golf tournaments and I was fortunate enough to learn about his life in Webster Springs including the wonderful field trips he put together for many of the students at Webster Springs Elementary. My wife Evelyn and I want to express our heartfelt condolences to Lois and all the rest of his family. He was a good man.
