The Lamberts were our next-door neighbors since I was 6 years old. It seemed like one of us was always at the other's house, and they treated me as one of their own, when Herman brought a surprise home to his children, he brought me something too. He was an extremely intelligent man, who always did the very best that he could, no matter what the endeavor, and I knew if I really needed something, I could go to them for help or advice. Godspeed Herman, you were one of the best! God's peace to the Lambert family.

Unfortunately, many of us Lamberts have lost touch with each other over the years. This is Gary Lambert, Herman's first cousin ---- youngest son of Tom Lambert (Ward's youngest brother). I last saw Herman in the late 1990s. He had stayed in contact with my mother, Gracie Skeens Lambert Vance, who lived in Barboursville, WV until her death in 2007, and he had asked her if she would let him know the next time I came home for a visit from Washington State where I was living at the time. She did, and Herman came over for a visit, and we had a wonderful time just catching up on the past. Herman was about 15 years younger than my dad, but for a short while had been a "running buddy" of his, and Herman shared with me some stories that I had never heard. He also provided information that helped me resolve previously unanswered questions. Herman was not the only member of the Lambert side of the family who stayed in touch with my mother over the years though she and my dad had been divorced in 1949. I always thought that said something really sweet about my mother, but also something special about my dad's family. I am glad that Herman and I were able to re-connect that day and I treasure the memory of our brief visit. My sincere condolences to all of the family.
