JO SUSAN OLIVER HAYSLETT stepped into the glory of her Lord at 3:10 a.m. on October 27, 2025. Born May 7, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Walter "Mack" Oliver and Ruth Miller Oliver of Hurricane, WV.
She moved to Hurricane in 1957 where she met her lifelong sweetheart of 66 years and husband, Walter "Tim" Hayslett. She graduated Hurricane High School in 1964, later becoming a graduate of Marshall University Nursing School in 1966. She then began her short tenured nursing career at St. Mary's Hospital through 1972. Though still a RN, and proud to say she was a nurse, it was at this time she embraced her true calling, a Wife to one, a Mother to five, and a Grammy to 17, including her 3 great-grandchildren.
Susan was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane where she was actively serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a founding member of the Hurricane Ladies Bible Study group which she served planning studies with her good friends. She also enjoyed playing in the bell choir for the church. Susan loved her "Girls of 64" high school friends and rarely missed their monthly dinners.
In her free time, she loved traveling out to the Hayslett family farm with Tim, where she would mow and work in the garden. She always looked forward to family events and holidays especially Apple Butter Day and Christmas. Her greatest joy was when all of her family was gathered together in one place.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, those left to remember her include her siblings: Mike Oliver (Bonnie) of Huntington, WV and Penny Meek of Idaho; children and their spouses: Timmy Hayslett Jr. (Amanda) of Hurricane, Roger Hayslett (Grace) of Milton, Jamie Hayslett (Angie) of Hurricane, Erin Larck (Ryan) of Hurricane, and Eric Hayslett of Hurricane; 14 grandchildren: Alison Teter (Jesse) of Huntington, Kristen Loveday (Michael) of Huntington, Timothy Hayslett III (Jackie) of Milton, Courtney Ballard (Zak) of Milton, Lexie Hayslett of Los Angeles (CA), Mary Hayslett of Huntington, Emily Hayslett of Hurricane, Natalie Hayslett of Hurricane, Brooklyn Goheen of Hurricane, James Goheen of Hurricane, Macey Larck of Hurricane, Brian Goheen of Hurricane, Kellan Larck of Hurricane, and Camden Hayslett of Hurricane; 3 great-grandchildren: Julianne and Brooks Ballard of Milton, and Theodore Hayslett of Milton.
She was of noble character and wise. She was clothed in strength and dignity; she spoke of wisdom and faithful words. She was the foundation of all those mentioned above. Not always seen and never wanting any attention or praise, but always in the background holding firm. Never buckling under the pressure, her faith never wavering. She was always there, a steady presence holding us up with her love.
