With deep love and remembrance, we honor the life of MICHAEL NEWHOUSE a proud U.S. Army retiree, dedicated government contractor, world traveler, church volunteer, loving husband and father, and a faithful follower of Christ. Michael went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 26, 2025 in Huntington, WV where he and his family reside.
Michael lived a life defined by service to his country, to his family, to his community, and most importantly, to God. He was a man of curiosity and adventure, who loved to travel and experience the world. Wherever he went, he carried his faith and his generous spirit with him. Having been assigned duty stations in Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Korea, Germany, Honduras, Kosovo, and the Pentagon. In fact, during the 9/11 terrorist attack he was stationed at the Pentagon, although not on duty that day. Michael also had friends that he was still in contact with from every duty station he had served at over the last 30 years; a true testament of his character and love for people.
At home, he was a devoted member of his church, often volunteering his time and energy to serve others whether through ministry, outreach, or simply lending a helping hand wherever it was needed. He particularly had a heart for the next generation and enjoyed encouraging them to chase Jesus. He had a natural way of connecting and supporting many young men and adolescents growing in their faith, and was a great role model for them.
Michael was a musician and songwriter. His love for playing drums led him to be in several bands over the years and to be part of the worship teams at churches he attended. His love for all kinds of music allowed his children to be musically inclined. A gift they will carry on.
But above all, Michael's greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband to his wife of 39 years, and a guiding light to his children. He led with quiet strength, gentle wisdom, and unwavering faith a true example of a life well lived. There was not anything he wouldn't do for his family and was always a loving leader and provider.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Judy and Carlton Newhouse, his mother and father-in-law, Lynda and Charles Woods, and his nephew, Jon Lewis.
He is survived by his wife Wendy Newhouse, children Joshua Newhouse, Myles Newhouse, and Isabella (Kobe) Smith, sisters Lynn Newhouse and Carla (William) Cassidy, brother and sister-in-law, Andy (Kim) Woods, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews in West Virginia and Florida.
There will be a private wake for the immediate family held in Martinsburg, WV.
Michael was a true patriot, so it is only fitting that his final resting place would be Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV are entrusted with arrangements.
