Pansy Patrick Obituary

PANSY LEE "PINK" PATRICK (NÉE MARCUM), 96, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born on April 7, 1928, in Cove Gap, West Virginia, she lived a life deeply rooted in love for her family, nature, and the simple joys of the world around her.
Pansy dedicated many years to education, beginning her career in a one-room schoolhouse in West Virginia where she not only taught all the grades but also built a fire each morning to warm the space for her students. Her work and her life were a testament to her resilience.
She found solace and spiritual connection in nature, believing deeply in the presence of God in the world around her. A Christian at heart, she held close the words of Psalm 91:4:
"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
Pansy cherished reading and had a profound appreciation for the natural world and animals. She was happiest surrounded by the beauty of creation, finding peace in its quiet wonders. Her strength, stubborn determination, and boundless love defined her character a true country girl who treasured her family above all else.
She is survived by her children: Lake Tackett (Clyde), Terry Patrick, James Robert Patrick (Patty), and Ginny Gregory (Scott); grandchildren Daniel and Jodi (Patrick) Afzalirad and Jessica Patrick; great-grandchildren Eliana Afzalirad, Lola Afzalirad, Luca Afzalirad, Hazel Afzalirad, Edie Afzalirad; Evan Patrick Cota, siblings Janice Rieck, Joyce Koran, and Jack Marcum; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special friend Blu Meeks.
She was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Lillie Marcum; daughter Carole Patrick; the father of her children James L. Patrick; sister Nellie June Queen; and brothers Verlin (Mose) Marcum, Vernon (Muck) Marcum, James Marcum, Carl Marcum, Dale Marcum, Bill Marcum, and Danny Marcum.
These words by Edna St. Vincent Millay were found copied in her notes.
"O world I cannot hold thee close enough...
Lord I do fear Thou'st made the world too beautiful this year.
My soul is all but out of me let fall no burning leaf let no bird call."
May Pansy's memory bring comfort to those who knew her. If you miss her presence you can find her in the sun on your face, the breeze on your skin, and through her surviving family.
