ROBERT CHAPMAN Obituary

ROBERT HARTLEY CHAPMAN, 81, of Proctorville, Ohio died peacefully at home Monday, February 17, 2014. Robert was the youngest of eight children, born December 15, 1932, to Lonard and Liva Chapman of Chesapeake, Ohio. He was a 1950 Chesapeake High School graduate, Robert joined the army soon thereafter and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Proctorville Masonic Lodge #550 F & AM and a member of First Baptist Church of Proctorville and the Progressive Sunday School Class. He retired from CSX Transportation with 42 years of service; working his way from laborer to a management position with the Russell Car Shops. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold Chapman and Edgar Chapman; his sisters, Ruth Chapman Dalton, Helen Richardson, Frieda Mitchell and Louise Lambert. Surviving and left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 58 years, Carole Wooten Chapman; his daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Judge Charles Cooper of Ironton; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Hartley and Debra Chapman of Smithfield, VA; his brother, Bernard Chapman of Proctorville; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his only granddaughter, Gretchen Cooper Walsh and her husband Chris of Columbus; three grandsons, Clark Cooper and his fiancée Angela Johnson of Houston, Texas, Brett Chapman (Rosa) of Phoenix, AZ and Travis Hartley Chapman (Holley) of Miami; three great grandsons, Cooper, Beckett and Cullen Robert Walsh; and three great granddaughters, Luna, Elora and Hartlynn Chapman. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Jeff Black. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home. Robert would hope that he be remembered for being an honorable man, his work ethic, and always providing for his family. He believed a handshake was better than any contract and that a man is only as good as his word. And for this lesson and for so many others we shall cherish his memory. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformeory.com/hall.

To Carol Wooten Chapman and Family
Carole, I am so sorry for your loss. My husband of 57 years and I now live in Florida going on 19 years, but still try to keep up with the obituaries in Huntington and surrounding areas. I didn't know your husband, Robert, but being married 58 years, I DO know you will miss him terribly and life won't be the same, of course.
Just know you are being thought of with love and prayers from an old friend.
