SUSAN RICHARDSON Obituary

SUSAN "SUE" KAY RICHARDSON passed away on November 28, 2017, at age 72. She had survived breast cancer twice in the last 30 years and was in the process of beating cancer for a third time but was thwarted by pulmonary complications. Sue was born in Wichita and grew up in Derby, KS, the eldest child of Leo and Edie Kessel. Her brother, Dennis "Denny," preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Mark E. Richardson, sister, Ann (Kessel) Carver, loving children, Traci L. (Kroening) Schuetz, Laura (Kroening) Jacks, and John J. Kroening, stepchildren, Steven Richardson, Susan (Richardson) Fleckenstein and Wesley Richardson, 5 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. Sue had great success in all facets of life. She cared for her family while working and finishing her undergraduate education in accounting, then embarked on a rewarding career for herself at the CPA firm of Somerville and Company P.L.L.C. in Huntington, WV. There she rose to partner status rapidly and served on the WV Society of CPAs. During her professional career in public accounting, she served in various positions, recognized nationally for her skill and superb knowledge of accounting. She was a member of the Partnership Taxation Committee for the American Institute of Certified Public Accounting (AICPA). She served for three years as the Chairperson of the National Taxation Committee for CPA Associates International. On a local level, she contributed to the community through service with multiple charitable organizations and was currently on the board of the James and Alice Teubert Charitable Trust. She served on the Board of Governors for Marshall University and then for the Mountwest Community and Technical College. At MCTC, she was Board President and was instrumental in negotiating the separation of MCTC from Marshall and relocation to its present footprint, positioning them for success in the long term. She was most recently on the Mountwest Foundation Executive Committee. So great was her personal drive that after retiring from accounting, she began taking classes at MCTC, soon earning another degree in culinary arts. She enjoyed displaying her culinary skills for her family, the Beverly Hills Garden Club and the occasional fortunate recipients of a catered event. Chef Sue Richardson, CPA, will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her and many who unknowingly benefited from her generous spirit. Please join us for visitation Friday, December 1, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment is private for family only at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to MCTC in Sue's memory though Mountwest Foundation Inc., One Mountwest Way, Huntington, WV 25701. Family guestbook at www.klingelcarpenter.com.
