WILLIAM D. "BILL" TONEY, JR., 69, passed away November 1, 2023. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Marjorie A. Toney and William D. Toney, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Alton D. Toney and Hazel O. Toney; his maternal grandparents, Glen E. Van Nostran and Irene Van Nostran; his uncle, Charles Toney; his aunt, Jane Toney; his uncle, Frederick Van Nostran; and, his cousin, David Van Nostran.
He is survived by: his fiancé, Melissa Notter-Watts, and her son, Dylan Watts; his daughter, Lisa Toney, and her children, Christopher Toney, Kenton Conn and Karson Toney; his brother, Bruce A. Toney (Lola, and her son, Matt McGuier); his nephew, Corey Toney; step children, Jodi Plymale Dotson, Ashley Lane Thomas and Mark Lane; and cousins, Allen Toney, Kim Van Nostran, Karla Taddiken and Deb Kilpatrick.
Bill was a life-long resident of Huntington. He attended Beverly Hills Middle School where he played basketball and football and broke several track records. He graduated from Huntington East High School where he excelled in track, being the co-captain of the track team, and winning several awards along with his teammates, Dean Dickson, Tom Ward and Roger Muth. He also loved playing pool and had a decades long participation in baseball from Pee Wee League through Babe Ruth. He later joined his father and uncle in the real estate business at Wm. D. Toney Realty Co. in Huntington and became the President of the Huntington Board of Realtors.
Bill was very proud to have been instrumental in bringing the Tri-State Fair and Regatta to Huntington in the 80's and 90's and acted as Chairperson of many of its events such as Summerfest and the Sternwheel Regatta. He worked for many years in the Development Department and other offices of the City of Huntington and was one of the Executive Directors of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority (HMDA) at the time of the creation of Kinetic Park. Afterwards until now he continued in the real estate business by owning numerous rental properties in Huntington.
He loved his family and greatly enjoyed boating with them and his dear friends at Adam's Landing Marina. Bill will be truly missed by all of his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and Dylan, who adored him and looked to him as a father figure.
A service will be conducted by Pastor Cliff Pruitt at the Reclaim Church, 3135 Washington Boulevard, Huntington on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 4 p.m., at which time all those who loved Bill are invited to share their memories.
There will be a celebration of his life at Schooners Waterfront Grille, 92 Buffington Street, Huntington (Guyandotte) immediately following the service until 7 p.m.
