MOUNT ZION - Derald Leroy Hartley, 83, of Mt. Zion, IL, peacefully passed away at 5:55 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2024, at The Grove Health and Rehab Center in Jacksonville. IL, surrounded by his three daughters.
A service to celebrate Derald's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, February 15, 2024, afternoon from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Buriel will be in Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL.

Derald was born October 18, 1940, in Decatur, IL, the youngest son of Leroy and Dorothy Hartley of Illiopolis, IL. He married Judith A. Smith on June 24, 1962, at the Illiopolis Christian Church, Illiopolis, IL.
Derald began working in 1962 in the manufacturing plant of Caterpillar in Decatur. He went to school at night and graduated from Millikin University with a degree in engineering. He eventually retired as a design engineer from Caterpillar after over 35 years of employment. Derald enjoyed remodeling his home and spending time with his family. In retirement, he and his wife purchased a second home in Port St. Lucie, FL, where they enjoyed spending the winter months with friends and family.
Derald is survived by his three daughters: Deborah (Dr. Joseph) Toigo of Grafton, IL, Diane (Diann Gardner) Hartley of Kansas City, MO, and Dina (Jeffrey) Spencer of Winchester, IL. Derald and his wife have five grandchildren: Katelyn Toigo, Tyler and Matthew Gardner-Hartley, and James and Jacob Spencer. Derald is also survived by his eldest brother, David Hartley of Loveland, CO.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 56 years; a brother, R. Keith Hartley; parents; and his beloved chocolate labrador, Fudge.
