Greggory Dean "Greg" Goodbred

1951 - 2023

On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Greggory Dean Goodbred unexpectedly passed into eternity at the age of 72. Born to Delores Gibson and Albert "Dean" Goodbred in Van Nuys, CA, Greg spent many of his formative years in Tonica, IL with his Grandma Cecil Goodbred, before moving to Mt. Zion, IL with his father and stepmother, Phyllis Goodbred. Greg graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1969.

Greg married Rhonda (Stiles) Goodbred in 1973 and became the loving father of two daughters, Michelle McRoberts, and Amanda Wilderman. Greg was proud to see both daughters participate in sports, band, and various other activities, graduate high school and college, and begin their own families.

Greg was an avid Cubs fan and was so excited to see them win the World Series in 2016. He was a creative woodworker, who created many beautiful pieces for family members, and a skilled handyman who absolutely loved to garden and work in the yard. More than anything he loved to celebrate his children and grandchildren's accomplishments and proudly talked about them to anyone who would listen. He daily celebrated life with his morning coffee and breakfast group at Mama's Daughters in Forney, Texas.

Greg was a hard worker who was dedicated to his roles at Archer Daniels Midland Corporation from 1973 - 1991, Bodine Electric of Decatur from 1991 - 1994, JJ Swartz Company from 1994 - 1997, Decatur Public Building Commission from 1997 - 2015, and in recent years as Lead Engineer at Baylor University Health Systems through CBRE.

He is survived in this life by his devoted wife Monica (Markey) Goodbred, and his two daughters, Michelle (Chris) McRoberts of Decatur, Illinois, and Amanda (Aaron) Wilderman of Pierceton, Indiana; and grandchildren: Silas, Levi, Marco, Sabastion, Lydia, Alex, Simeon, Amos, Miriam, and bonus great-grandchildren Elisa and Hortencia. He is also survived by stepchildren Tina Mares (Rudy) of Katy, Texas, and Tony Raymond (Shannon) of Rockwall, Texas, and step-grandchildren (Bode, Joey, Blake and Baylee). Stepmother: Phyllis Goodbred. Brothers: Larry (Doris) Goodbred of Decatur, IL and Dale Goodbred of Decatur, IL. Sisters: Christine (Jerry) Smith of Mt. Zion, IL, Cheri Sorenson of Kokomo, IN, Jamie Rigg of Dalton City, IL and Laura (Paul) McKneight of Tucson, AZ. He is also remembered by his first wife, Rhonda Goodbred.

He was preceded into eternity by his parents, Albert "Dean" Goodbred and Dolores Gibson, and beloved Grandmother Cecil Goodbred.

At Greg's request, he will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held:

*in Illinois at Life Foursquare Church, 2954 W Ash Avenue, Decatur, IL 62526 on January 22 at 6:00 PM
